Dartmoor Witchcraft

Have just completed the Dartmoor Witchcraft walk (27-04-16). Box number 3 has lost its stamp. The box was still in place and O.K. the photocopies were also still in the box.

Box Removed from Feather Tor Area

I have just removed the melted remains of a letterbox container from Grid Ref 53696 74156 (Feather Tor area). This was due to swaling in the area.

Stolen or just taken off the moor

Last weekend I found six boxes in a very poor state with cracked containers and stamps off of backing. Four stamps could not be identified due to breaking up and unstampable. I have reported 2 of the boxes as for the other 4 I only have grid references. So I have infact taken 6 boxes off the moor. W...

SO HAPPY

Well done - That was a good weekend, 58 boxes in two days.
If only it was like that every time you go out.
You must now be looking forward to your next trip to the moors.

Is Letterboxing in Decline

Following on from my original question " Is Letterboxing in Decline" . I would be interested to know what happend on 20th November 2007 to make 67 users of this site go on line at 9.40pm. Have looked back at postings for this date but can see no reason for this large number of viewings. Most nights ...

Is Letterboxing in Decline

I raise this question after spending a week on the moor around Sourton Tor/Great Links Tor. We were finding boxes that had last been stamped in 2009 and others with only one or two stamp enteries for this year. As this is a popular area for boxing and not that far onto the moor I would have expected...

Disappointing first trip...help

Hi Simsy

Grid ref. for Pew Tor 53 73. I have only given a four figure grid as you will find many boxes in this square. Just go and have a poke around with your walking pole and look for the tell tell signs.

Plume of Feathers campsite

I spent three nights on the site at the end of March, the cost for a one man tent is now £7.50 per night. I enquired at the Fox Tor Cafe about the price of the bunk house and this was £9.50 per night. After many years of eating breakfast at The Plume of Feathers I now eat at the Fox Tor Cafe. Good g...

Reached first milestone of 100 boxes

Oh dear you are now hooked on letterboxing. I bet you are now planning to get your 200 box and then the 500 box etc. Just think of those cold wet days tramping over the moors only to find a few boxes. Well done and might catch up at the Meet. I will be floating across the moor from Thursday if the s...

Hiding your Box

After lots of searching for boxes you know what to look out for. For example that pile of small rocks placed under a larger rock. Erosion of soil and vegitation were the rocks are rolled away to get to the box. The bench type rock that you sit on to stamp your book and flatten the vegetation under y...

Paces or Steps

How many times are the clues given a so many paces on a compass bearing and how many times should it be steps . A step is the space between the feet usually at 30". A pace is the space between two feet usually about 60" So two steps makes one pace. This would save my tired old legs going further tha...

Hiding your Box

When you place your box on the moor do you want lots of visitors to find it or do you try to find a place that will not attract to many visitors !
I ask this as one of my boxes has only been visited 6 times in 2 years. :? [/b]
