Grants Pot

Post by John »

Anyone been to Grant's Pot? Anyone know who 'Grant' was?

I saw a photo a short while ago which looked like someone coming out of the 'pot' - alternatively I guess is that they were going in backwards! Anyway, the entrance looked a bit small, and being slightly larger than the person in the photo I was wondering just how big the entrance to the pot is. I plan to visit it, but wondered if I might be in for a squeeze :)

Thanks.

Hi,

I was there last week and almost got stuck rooting around inside it for a box.

It's quite small, dry and dark but your eyes adjust quickly.

I probably should have taken my backpack off first :D

I didn't find the box either!

Okay, thanks for that. If you had your backpack on then I don't think I need to worry - I had no intention of going in with my rucksack on :)
Interesting that you say it was dry. I would have thought with all the rain it would have been quite wet.

Shame about the letterbox. I noted that it was listed in the catalogue as number 6. However, I now see that it is listed in the supplement as a deletion. We'll still visit the site though.

I have just 'googled' Grant's Pot and it would appear that one of the original 15 letterbox stamps was sited there.

I have a friend who wants to visit Duck's Pool, which I visited (according to my letterboxing books) 21 years ago almost to the day! So I said we might as well visit some other interesting places in the area. Grant's pot was one, and hence why I asked about how big the 'pot' was, but Philpott's Cave is the other. There is a letterbox near to the cave, but not in it (so I gather), so hopefully that will still be on-site. Not sure of our exact route yet, but may well include Erme pits, Grimm's Grave and Deadmans Bottom. So we may well pick up some other letterboxes along the way :)

I hadn't heard of Grant's pot before this thread. I see it is near Duck's Pool so I will have to go there as well. I haven't been to Duck's Pool yet but would like to go before the meet on the 30th.

It is a lot easier to find Grant's Pot with a GPS if you have one.

I have an 8-figure gridref to Grants Pot, so if we're on course then we should be within 10m of it. However, if you have a 10-figure gridref for it, then can you let me know what it is please? I'm happy to use the GPS for that final bit :)

Have been to Grant's Pot about 9 or 10 years ago when the dogs were younger and we had walked out to Duck's Pool. Seem to remember that we got a letterbox from in there. Haven't got a picture that I can upload as it was pre digital camera days.
