How I Started Boxing

Post by Dilton Martian »

Unusually I started boxing elsewhere, in that area that cannot be named in public! Back in 1988 I took over a Scout Troop and among all the odds and ends was a list of letterbox clues. :) I tried to find a few but the list was several years old so no luck. :(

Fast forward to about 6 years ago and I was on the Moor with another Scout Troop and one of the Scouts found a box under a boulder which triggered the memory of the original list.

Dartmoor was too far away for me so eventually with the aid of the internet I tracked down the organiser of the area closer to home and started boxing. After nearly 400 non-dartmoor boxes I eventually got there this last weekend. We did not find any of the boxes we had clues for but in a couple of frantic afternoons my wife and I managed to find 34 boxes in the Bonehill Rocks and Hound Tor areas. Scavenging for boxes is fun but not as satisfying as following clues and bearings to get specific boxes.

We will be back later this year and hope to get closer to that first 100. :D
Letterboxing - it's not a hobby, it's an adventure
