Hi

everyone we were up on Hamel Down yesterday ( it was very hot) and we came across an ammo box just lying in a space between a couple of rocks, inside it was a pill box with a stamp ( sorry no scanner) obviously handcut, it was of a hippo with open jaws and it said MVUU BOX. I have checked the current catalogue without success, anyone any ideas who it belongs to? We would have taken it off the moor but its rather bulky to carry?

:? Well that could be one way to defeat the LBT then - put all our boxes in ammo cans - just like the good ole days! Only trouble would be he/she would just nick the stamp.

Anyway to answer your question - did this box have a book in it, if so were there any deatils (sure you would have checked that) and were there anymore letterboxers stamps in it. Did you take an approx grid of where you found it? I don't know of a stamp like that, but others might. Could be one of those geo thingies

Found this one as well on 24 May whilst doing the Cornish Crosses.

From what I remember it was roughly at 712.782 in area burnt clean!

Stamp is 1.5'' x 1.5'' : MVUU

No,

There wasn't a book, so no means of ID. The grid cords are as Wandering Artist says and funnily enough we found it when doing the Cornish Crosses Walk, which is excellent and highly recommended.
