Hi!

We've just come back from the Bellever Bridge area and have come across two stamps by chance that we cannot name. Any help would be much appreciated!

Both stamps are portraits, within a picture frame, and look as though they belong in a set. They are titled:

'Edward Passmore'

'Sir Goldsworthy Gurney'

The stamps were both contained in dark grey medicine tubs.

Many thanks! :D

These sound like they are "Dartmoor Personalities" stamps which numbers they are I dont know - not without looking at a clue book which I dont have to hand at the moment - but I am sure somone on here can Identify foer you.

Anyway welcome to the site :) I hope to see you again on here

Many thanks for the prompt reply. I've tried looking at the catalogue, but the 'Personalities' clues seem very cryptic. Does anyone know if there is a way of solving them?

This was only our 2nd trip to Dartmoor, but found 16 stamps around Bellever Bridge/Laughter Tor, and then another 18 around Stannon Tor and Postbridge.

If only the weekends were longer!

I'm absolutely hopeless with cryptic clues so can't help, sorry. However, well done on your finds above.

Thank Tina!

I'm all for a bit of puzzle solving in order to find the boxes - if they were too easy there would be no sense of achievement when finding one. However, some of the clues in the catalogue seem as though the boxes are not meant to be found. What do others think? :?

Hi,

the stamps you found were part of a charity walk put out by PDSA. I did the walk in Jan 2006. Edward Passmore was Cat No. 38971 and Sir Goldsworthy Gurney was Cat no. 38972. I expect they are all in by now.
