New Box!

Mr Cock & Mrs Chicken

Hi all

This week, together with Roger & Steph (Woodstock Wanderers), we had the good fortune to meet up with John Govier and Kev Hutchings from BBC Radio Devon to record a small item about letterboxing in "Kev's Club of the Week". John Govier's show gives us much entertainment and many chuckles when we listen in our tent whilst on Dartmoor, and at home via the internet. So, we had a stamp made up and it was sited during the recording!

The clue for the box will be issued on air on John Govier's Late night Radio show on BBC Radios Devon and Cornwall (and live via the internet)on Tuesday 30th October between 10pm and 11.30pm.
For further details of how to listen go to: http://www.bbc.co.uk/devon/local_radio/jg/

if we miss the show do you have the clues?

Forgot to add that the show has a "Listen Again" facility whereby you can hear it again for a week after broadcast.

We won't be circulating clue ourselves for a while yet - so a true "Word of Mouth" clue!

Sorru to hear you weren't at the pre-meet though I did get your stamp :)

Thanks Nik. Glad our stamp has made it to Princetown and has been put to its intended use!

Alas, work and other commitments forced us to alter the dates for our visit to Dartmoor this time of year. Not quite right not being able to come to the pre-meet. On the other hand, coming down did result in a great experience recording the Radio Devon item with John Govier. :D

We have had confirmation the clue for the box we sited will also be published on the Radio Devon website shortly after it is broadcast on air. Will post link here the following day.

So we don't get a head start :(

Alas, not on this occasion! By posting forthcoming details here we hope to give as many of our fellow boxers an equal chance to be among the first finders, whatever group (or not) they associate with, be they newbies or long-experienced. There are still letterboxers who don't have computers to communicate with other boxers so hopefully a few of them will also catch the clue on the good old wireless. :)

Hi all,

Just thought I'd pop by and say thanks to Mr Cock and Mrs Chicken for all their help in setting up the Late Show letterbox.

Last night I heard from the 11th person to find it.

I had great fun getting involved and look forward to hearing from lots of others.

All the best and happy hunting...

glad you had fun,

If you get to your 100 dont forget to get you membership. Also you could always do a show on the meet next year? then you get to meet everyone in one place and see how busy it gets

Hi JG, you Diamond Geezer!

What a pleasant surprise. Welcome to the forum!

It really was a pleasure. Thanks also to you for a great broadcast piece;we are proud to be associated with it. Even we were eagerly anticipating the release of the clue - and we already knew where to box was!

So many people would have been introduced to letterboxing for the first time on "Kev's Club of the Week", which was produced with much thought and consideration to the letterboxing community.

We have a "Kipper's Box" out there. The clue for that has only a four figure grid reference. Upon checking recently we found that we had 90 visitors in 10 months. Wonder how many will find your box over the next few months...

Speak soon,

Andrew & Sally

That must have been Bob and Pat from Torquay who where around there when we found it just before them, we where 10th in the box.

The postcards on its way back to you with some stamps on it are you in Plymouth or Exeter (Im a Grockle)

What made us laugh about the clue (no offence meant) was

Under an irregular shaped boulder !

Aren't they all irregular shaped

Mr Cock & Mrs Chicken

2007-11-07 22:38:31

Hi Number 70

We used the phrase "irregular-shaped" to distinguish from rectangular-ish, oval-ish, triangular-sh, roundish, finger-shaped, arrowhead etc!

Hi Number 70 - Mike and Julie - good to know you enjoyed searching for and finding the box. I'll have you know that here in Devon we have some perfectly formed boulders! lol - Small, but perfectly formed!! (OK you win!)

I'm based in Plymouth although half of BBC Radio Devon's programmes are broadcast from Exeter. I love it here as it's only about 15 mins to get out to the moor and I think you'll agree that, on a fine sunny day, the view from the location the Late Show box is hidden (or thereabouts, not wishing to give anything away) is fantastic!

Great to hear from you - and I look forward to receiving your card.

Best wishes

OMG I think I have figured it out ..... :D

Thanks for the info there
Question....
What shape is an irregular shaped boulder is it perfectly smooth and round as every boulder on the moor is weird in shape and size

Only kidding

It may have been a clue on one of the 'Monkey's on the moor' boxes today which stated...........under a chicken drumstick shaped rock...............that was different!

moorland wizard

2007-11-11 20:42:20
