For those of you who have not seen it on my firing notices there is a rather nice and VERY pleasant hole in the firing schedules

Very nice of them to say so too - go on go and have a looksee! :)

I can give you a clue on how thick some of these recruits can be...
Many years ago during the week of the hurricane I was at Raleigh doing a Navy leadership course and we had been "released" for the Saturday afternoon - our only day off in two weeks... and on my return on the ferry

I was feeling particularly lazy I spotted a Land Rover with RN on the side.
So I popped down onto the car deck and asked if he was going back to Raleigh and if I could have a lift. This guy said to me - in the 18 months he had been doing this job and being on the ferry at that time EVERY night no one had ever asked him - I got a lift!

And then he told me on the way back he ran the Dartmoor training for the new recruits he told me of one recruit who ate magic mushrooms all the way around on the hike they had to do - They got him back to the sick bay - pumped his stomach out (the docs estomated he had eat well over 5000 of these things during the day) put him up in front of Commander training (which is scarey cos I have been there too) and he was booted out of the service somewhat dishonourably!

and it still goes on, even when i was there someone wanted to play superman out of the top window three floors up. needless to say he went to hospital, but scary thing is, that he is still in.

But as for the recruits we did see them going around with marines so maybe they need supervising know. All i remember about doing the hike is one blister and steak at the plume of feathers.
