I received this email today:
Yesterday I took Kate out to Bonehill Rocks where she enjoyed a short walk with me and then we sat in the car on the side of Widecombe Hill and watched the clouds move over the valley she loved so much. Later that day, following a stroke, she died in Torbay Hospital; she had been suffering increasing angina attacks for some weeks. She was 86, a much-loved friend and I shall miss her very much. Some of you will know her well, some will have met her on the moor with me or at the Meet and I felt this circular letter was the best way of informing everyone.
Her funeral is to be at Weston Mill Crematorium, Plymouth on 11th February at 1.30 p.m. and her family have asked me to say that any letterboxing friends who wish to come along will be welcome.
Despite her heart attack early last year she still managed to put out her Pixie stamps with me in the Spring and, as well as letterboxing outings, we were delighted to be invited by Richard and Lisa Windsor of Dunnabridge Farm to visit the cross by the Dart erected to mark the death of her cousin, Christopher, who drowned in the River Dart during a family holiday when they were children. I will have many such occasions to remember and her encouragement as I struggled to get back to normal after breaking my leg. As I staggered along she would turn and say to me 'Courage, mon brave! You can do it.' It was one of her favourite expressions, she always had so much more determination that I did.
Best wishes to everyone
