Does this event still take place? It was probably 1995 and 1996 that I joined in. Only I can't find any mention of it anywhere online.

If you mean the Ten Post Box walk, then it no longer takes place. If I am correct think it stopped when someone collapsed and died whilst doing it.

Yes that's the one. Thanks. I couldn't remember it's name.
It's a shame it no longer happens. It was such fun and really well organised.

It was a whole day event starting and finishing from a large tented point (near a pub!) anywhere on either the South or North Moor.
Entrants were pre-registered and you could put your name down for various lenghts of walks. Some walks were short and suitable for families with small children, some were intermediate and there was a long one of approx 20miles and if I can remember correctly an even longer one. I did the long one for two years running and it was brilliant.
On each walk there were 10 clues to boxes along the way and there were also check points along the way where your card was stamped.
At the end you would get a cloth badge as a commemoration.
The planning and logistics of safety and permissions etc must have been awesome but it was so enjoyable.

The chap who collapsed and died on the 10 post box walk was a freind of mine - John Wintour a very nice gentleman and it was a huge shock to us all when we heard about his demise. He will never be forgotten as long as we remember his name
The Ten Post people wanted to do a walk the following year but it seems no one had the heart to do it anymore.
Anyone thinking of setting up something similar and has to have a lot of time available - things to organise - permission of course - check points - 1st aid coverage - emergency cover if it is required - insurance and a arranging a few hundred other things too.
