I've got a fair idea of what Letterboxing is,but where do you get the clues from? Are they posted on this site?

Im a very keen Geocacher, this is how i've become interested in Letterboxing.

Any info would be great!! Cheers

Your best bet Laura is to read through the old posts as just about all the answers to any of your questions will be there somewhere.

Clues aren't published online although you will see details of some of the charity walks in the Charity Walks section on here.

Good luck

As a Geocacher you will probably know how addictive this type of hobby is  , the one piece of advice I could give you is, turn around and walk the other way, dont do it, it will take over your life, I have been in therapy for years now and they still have to let me out twice a year to walk on Dartmoor

On a serious note though the concensus of opinion would be to head for Pew Tor chack every rock and you should have a load at the end of your walk.

Hi KernewesLaura, I can vouch for Pew Tor as well. That is where I started!

on pew tor you will probablly find one every 100 meters if you look properly, try the charirty walks first to see if you can find them, then you will know what to look for around th moor, if you look through the internet just type in dartmoor letterboxing and i think there are some clues on some web sites.

Hi KernewesLaura,
Welcome to the site - I see it is your first post - there has been reams and reams written on the subject within these pages.
With Dartmoor it is worth remembering it can be a dangerous place if you are unprepared. Essential equipment includes MAP COMPASS WATERPROOFS and some means of a hot meal/drink - unbreakable flasks are ideal
Then there is the note pad and some card/paper to stamp your stamps on. About 1 in every 100 boxes might contain an inkpad so assume there wont be one. The more you get into the hobby the more ink pads you can invest in. Note Blue ink takes ages to dry. Black is the most common you will need - would suggest an inkpad that has a face that is slightly higher than the lip of its case - because sometimes you get enormous stamps!
The most important thing with Dartmoor is to have fun... if you find a letterbox - put it back and hide it - don't get several together and try to remember where they came from because you will get it wrong! Do them one at a time.
