There are a few computer based programs being used, do you remember who it was designed by?

Hi. I got this reply from Mike Re computer program

"Thanks for the enquiry. Below is some information for you. If you need more please feel free to come back to me.
The computerised catalogue is something I sell. I sell the program and the data, which is the whole of the catalogue and a load of older boxes as well. I sell the data on behalf of Tony Moore who produces the catalogue twice a year. It is updated approximately once a month via e-mail.

You cannot download the computerised catalogue, you need to send me a cheque for the appropriate sum and I will then send it on via snail mail.

Cost is £25 for the program, £25 for the current data and updates are 75p per update via e-mail.

Facilities available include:
· for each stamp the following information can be stored: Name, walk name & number, stamp number, catalogue grid reference, your grid reference, whether deleted, catalogue description, your description, comments, where found, was there a stamp, type of box (traveller, normal etc.) date found, expiry date;
· Stamps can be displayed in order of name, number, grid reference, entry order, or by walk name;
· you can add, edit or delete (physically or just mark as deleted but retaining data) all stamps;
· import new and amended stamps from floppy disc;
· store function keys holding frequently used pieces of data for quick input;
· put an expiry date on stamps and automatically mark as deleted when expired;
· enter ½ or ° symbols or any other symbol that your computer supports;
· automatic entry of walk name, number, walk number and expiry date when you enter a walk stamp;
· maintain a data base of known places on the moor and their grid references along with a comment for each;
· find where: uses two points (known or fuzzy such as tor starting with C) and the bearings to them to find an unknown location (use the database with quick search routines), also displays the clue of the last stamp looked at while doing so and can them automatically transfer the generated grid, and a comment, back to the stamp as an additional grid (this additional grid will then be included in any further searches);
· amend the magnetic variation used in the find where function;
· selectively list stamps with many different ways of including/excluding certain stamps;
· produce a report including any range of stamps. Selectively add walks, ranges or individual stamps to the report. Quickly and easily move stamps up and down the report to achieve the desired search order. Print the report to screen to see how it will look then print to the printer. Save the report for later use if required;
· print on a windows supported graphical printer;
· search for obscure information such as all stamps having A or B as the second letter of their name and in grid square 7865 but only if the stamp was found after 05 Jan 95 (if you really want to do this!). All fields can be searched;
· stamps density report showing the best place on the moor to visit;
· backup and restore stamps and places database. Selectively backup to exchange clues with friends;
· anagram solver using the database of places;
· full windows based context sensitive help, just hit F1 if you are stuck;
· automatic selection for VGA or SVGA;
· Data updates distributed monthly, just 75p via e-mail.

I pmed Orla mikes email address as I wasn't sure if I was allowed to post it. But I guess you can now everyone has all the info they need above. This is a program I use and find it very good. Be it the only one I have ever used mind you.

We use Mike's database and find it very useful. By entering the grid references that you are going letterboxing you can then print off the clues. Once you have found the letterboxes and they are on the database you can indicate when you have found it and also can print off a report showing what stamps you have found - very useful for getting your badge!!

It is very easy to use.

Hopefully we may be up on the moors in a couple of weeks for the weekend.

I tried the program and I wasn't that keen on it - but then it is what you get used to - I wrote various different database programs - somehow none were as good as the one my brother wrote. Since a change of computer and things the program is now lost - which is annoying

Hi David, re the letterboxng search - you need to click on Reports, then 'Ordered report'. Then click 'Range' up will come another panel - type in the co-ords of the square you want to walk in. then down the RH side choose what boxes you want to show. I only check 'Not found'. I leave the LH side as it is. Then I uncheck the 'deleted' ones. Then when you click OK all the boxes you need to find will come up.

Hi - I purchased the programme from Mike as I started letterboxing earlier this year. It takes some getting used to but I do find it very helpful, and would not be without it... Just wish I could produce and ordered report sorted by box number and not box name
