The Original Letterboxes

Does anyone know if any of the original ten letterboxes are still on the moor?

They seem to be in the catalogue every year, but either they are not all out there anymore or I am very unlucky. I have tried year after year for some of them with no joy. Here are my misfortunes:

Watern Tor - Taken in to be refurbished. New owners I think.
Hen Tor - Found the site (4 times), box not present.
Huntingdon Warren - Never there, at least when I am !!!!!!
Grant's Pot - No stamp (twice).
Ryder's Hill - No longer listed.
Lints Tor - Box taken in.
Although no.32 ... Fox Tor always eludes me too.

Have any of you found these boxes recently?

Grant's Pot - last I heard (a few weeks ago on this forum) was that it wasn't there. But it is listed in the latest catalogue, I plan to visit it sometime - should get going I guess!

Fox Tor - never found it, when I last looked it was marked as deleted (but you're right it is in the catalogue)! Again, should revisit (I'd like to see what nearby 'Rabbit's Tor' actually looks like too.)

Hen Tor - Can't find that one listed in the catalogue.

About 7 years ago someone wanted to re-establish the first 100 boxes, making duplicates of the original stamps etc - I know some went out but sadly the letterbox thief got them very early on. Prestidgous stamps and all that, and the idea fizzled out very rapidly. I remember chasing after a few of the elusive re-issues but all to no avail.

I have only found a few of the original ones. Obviously been to Cranmere Pool (first but No.12) and Taw Marsh (2nd but No.9). I also have Calveslake Tor (No.4), with my own box on the tor.
I have not given up just yet. Will try the others again during the summer.

I have a vague recollection of the Plymouth Get Together adopting some of the older boxes. Or I may have dreamt it :?

You might be right about that someone who goes to the PGT was going to do it - dunno if they are still going to do it though

Have any of you lovely fellows been to Huntingdon recently?
I am thinking about returning to try again for the old Huntingdon Warren stamp (no.4). Every time I have visited, the box is taken in. I have noticed that there was a new clue since my last visit. I was just wondering if the box has been put out again.

Hello folks, I'm coming down to Dartmoor next week and will be going to Grant's pot, so let's hope the box is there!! Also, will be near Huntington, so will hunt for the box....I'll let you know if I find anything!!! by the way, if anyone is around, it would be great to meet any one of you, I'll be based at the Forest Inn from Monday to Wednesday next week!

Good luck with Grant's Pot - I looked in last summer but stupidly didn't take a torch, but groping around found nothing. Would be interested to know if it's still there. When I popped out of the hole there was an array of about ten curious cow's heads peering down, wondering where I'd got to!

Also there's a secondary box supposedly downstream, but could find no trace. Let us know how you get on!

I too looked last summer and found it to be empty.
