Hello Everyone

Just a quick email to say hello.

Hoping to get into letterboxing with Hubby and son, the last time I did it was probably 20 years ago!!!! with the Guides.

I have got some of the charity walks to get us started, but if yesterday is anything to go by we maybe could have got by with out them.....

Went to do some of the Wreckers walk yesterday (had our little niece and nephew in tow too.... not fast movers LOL  ) and didn't find any of the letterboxes we should have but came away with 8.

Haven't a clue if any of the 8 are in the catalogue, one looked like it hadn't had a visitor in years log book full etc.. it was celebrating John and Shelia's Ruby Wedding back in 1997, got us wondering if they made it to their 50th last year. Does anyone know on here???

Had a lovely few hours on the moor under Widgery Cross.

Cheers

Steph

Hi Trufflebuggy and welcome to the forum, we have also not long started and found the advice from fellow users very helpful.

If you have a couple of little ones in tow then take them off to Saddle Tor where you will find lots of boxes, generally placed by kids, but it's a great way to get the kids interested. We did this a month or so ago with our 4 year old grandboy and he was so excited

Have fun and enjoy letterboxing

Hi Foxy

Choose my nickname for my forum name.... bit of a long story but essentially my hubby called our bump (now James) Truffle..... and as I was carrying the bump I was the buggy.... hence Trufflebuggy!! :P

Hi Searchlighters

Thanks for the tip, James is 5 and half and really enjoyed yesterday. He's very much an outside boy... unless power rangers is on and then we have to tear him away!

Hi there Trufflebuggy & Co. Love the name and you are most welcome to the site.

No doubt you will have a million questions about boxing and no matter how many times they have been asked on here you will always get a nice friendly answer to them on here no matter how stupid or simple they might sound.

With your "charity walk" you tried to do... it is a strong possibility they have been either stolen, taken in, or you simply missed them.

There are a lot of changes since you last went boxing, 20 years ago there wasn't a 5 year limit on the boxes - this was down to the size of the ever expanding catalogue and to keep costs down and with agreement of the DPA to reduce the number of boxes on the moor to bring in the 5 year
limit.
I am still in two minds if this was a good thing or not, but there is nothing I could do about it - lol

Anyway I agree with the comment up there about starting with Pew Tor/ Sampford Tor for the starting place, however you are now gettinginto the Bracken season so mind your footing - especially on the South side of Sampford Tor. Have a good look around the trees and obvious large boulders, and see what you can find.

As I said - welcome to the forum and happy hunting

Your box is still under the tree David. It is the 'Think Snow' stamp.
I found about two weeks ago.
