Just thought I’d let you all know how our first outing went
We camped at Higher Langford campsite on Saturday after Argyle.
The weather was wet with a capital W. On the Sunday we walked up to Pew Tor were we found our 1st box (thank you Stephanie & Lewis) & we were the first to stamp the visitors book, whoopee this is easy what are they all going on about !!!!
, things went down hill from then on, like Jock1967 we found other boxes without stamps. We found 1 on Heckwood put out by Mike Shopland then on to Feather, we trudged across to little & Middle Staple were we found a couple but by then the wind had got up to make it not just rain but driving rain so we tottled back to camp for a nice hot shower & a well earned glass of wine.
We saw in the Dartmoor Guide a guided walk for Monday to Cranmere Pool starting from Okehampton camp, so of we went, a 10.30 start which must have taken us through the wettest & boggiest parts of the moor, not a good time to find out that your boots aren’t as advertised & do actually let the water in
but we did get the prize of the stamp along with sore feet.
We were going to do more but the weather was pants & our feet are sore so we’ll have to leave it for another day, we did work out that we need to plan better, on looking through the catalogue I noticed stamps that we’d walked past not knowing they were there, the catalogue it not laid out by Tor’s or grid squares, a little bit of work required by me I think.
We’ll be back once our boots have dried out & the blisters have popped
