Has anyone ever parked around the back of cox tor in the area known as lawn corner (approx 530 769) by Higher Godsworthy, it is probably me being lazy but it may be quicker to get to Roos tor for us from here than Barnhill

I'm not sure of the name but if you main on the corner by the wall then yes a couple of times.

Hi, that is the usual place to park for Roos Tor, saves a lot of walking, especially if you want to go up and over to White Tor

Yes, many many times. It's a nice spot just to sit and look at what's around (if you park nearer the top of the hill rather than at the actual corner). I once watched from there rescue dogs being trained up by the rocks on the north side of Cox Tor. I also spent a good hour or so sitting on some of the nearby rocks a couple of summers ago just watching the Farmer(s) collecting the hay off one of the fields. It was great.

It also offers a nice quiet walk up to Cox, Roos or, as mentioned, round to White Tor (and then back via Boulters Tor, Little Coombe, over the Colley brook, and up to Geat Coombe Tor, then back to the corner.) Alternative is to take the NW path through the fields, which leads into a nice ride and then to Great Coombe Tor - another nice place to just look around.

Definitely one of those nice little corners of Dartmoor. :)

You know, I have never thought of parking there before. Every time I have been to Roos Tor it is from the car park below the Staple Tors. I guess my head will never save my legs

Thanks for your replies such positive feedback so far, makes me wonder if there are other 'obvious' parking places that are out there that others have missed as well

I would rather say they are 'not obvious' :) The map shows several parking places along the main road to Merrivale, and people not used to the area would no doubt head for them. However, again looking at the map, shows that the road to Higher Godsworthy is unfenced - so it may be possible to park along the road (you never know until you try it). In this case it is true, although there are other parts of the moor where the map is out of date, and parking is not possible.

Another parking place is at 591765. There is no indication of this, and the track looks just like a track! However, at the end is a little parking area for several cars. The Army use the area, so no parking when firing is going on. I use this area to head off to the Beardown Man area. (Look at the map and you will see there is a bridge over the river at 595771. So that makes things nice an easy, although the walk due N from the car park to Broad Hole is perfectly okay.)

Another obvious one is at 5269 7323 which is at the back of Pew Tor - plenty of parking along there to save the trek over from Barnhill. Also an easy way to get to Teignhead Farm - Quintens Man. Don't park in the normal car park at the entrance to Fernworthy forest, keep driving along the road until you get to the end at 6594 8393. Plenty of room to park, then its a straight (about 1 mile) walk up through the forest to Langmead gate. As you go through the gate the moors open up before you - beautiful views all over. If you want to go Belstone Tor, instead of parking in the village park at the Waterworks at 6164 9332. Go through the gate, a short walk up the slope and there you are looking at the N end of Belstone tor - Tors End tor.
