Well I was wondering as I am planning to do a charity walk next year what really was the best container to use on the moor, and what your experences were,

lock lids, ammo boxes, pill pots, lunch boxes ect ect.... I have seen many on the moor but some seem to last longer than others, but hopefully This walk "hopefully" will last for the months to come.

Your thoughts please.

hi moorland wizard i think the lunch boxes with the snap down lids are the best, or a friend and i have used pill pots one inside the other then into a plastic bag to protect from the weather.

Ammo cans are an absolute no, no. Letterboxes these days must not be put into anything metal.

Double potted medical containers and the click and lock boxes are best. Also better not to use any plastic bags as these blow away in the wind and are dangerous for the animals.

If you decide upon the pill pot method to get the labels off fill the pots with boiling water and the labels just slide off

well taking with some friends about this about not using metal containers but keeping it within a military theme he said look on ebay at detonator boxes as they are made out of plastic and very waterproof, so i have a few on the way, and i few from a couple of friends in green. if these work when i take the labels off, ill see how water proof they are i might get away with just the one pot with the stamp in, who knows,

I really have to say with this credit crunch and woolworths going, i have managed to stock up on snap lid boxes for the next few stamps to put out on the moor. I hope the prices of other items for letterboxing goes down as well i think i could do with a new pair of boots..

Funny you say about stocking up on snap lid boxes with Woolworths etc. I bought a pack of fifteen containers from Woolworths in Tavistock for 1.77 when they were closing down!

15 snap top boxes for £1.77 - that can't be bad can it - a real bargain sadly I could get anywhere near a Woolies to get anything so I didn't get any bargains.
It is such a shame no one could be found to buy the chain
