Hi All
After 18 years of trying well with a 17 year break I have finally reached 100 Stamps, 104 to be precise. Had a lovely day walking around Brat Tor / Doe tor however unfortunately I lost my compass in the process :( .

Hi Colin,

Was that you near the top of Brat at about half ten?
If it was I was the bloke running down with a collie. Will keep my eyes peeled for your compass :)

It took me about 10 year with a 9 and a half year break.

Hi Foxy
10 o'clock is a bit early for me I didn't get there till 1ish. If anyone had spotted me I would have been the bloke wandering aimlessly near the stream in-between brat and doe tor looking for a compass. I did set out to do a charity walk but the lack of a compass sort of put a stop to that.

I know it's an after thought (or hindsight), but thats why compasses (loss can be dangerous in bad/doutful weather) should be on a lanyard attached to the person/clothing.
hope you find or get the return of soon,

Hi Legend of the moor thanks for the advice, the compass did have lanyard attached although it was not attached to anything else (Big Mistake). I put the compass in my map case it must have fallen out the bottom. I do always carry a spare compass its more just the annoyance of losing a perfectly good one.

I have had to put my hand in my pocket and have now purchased a Silva Expedtion 54 which is an upgrade to my now lost Silva Expedtion 4.

Don't feel bad about losing the Expedition 4 - you have done the right thing and upgraded. You do really need the 54 sighting compass to get anywhere with letterboxing. They are more expensive but worth it. The normal Expedition 4 is only good for walking on a compass bearing - no good on sighting bearings on close or distant objects i.e. TV mast bears.......Upright pointed rock bears......etc... I have picked up numerous compasses in my time and generally ask Malcolm to put them on the update for people to claim.

Shame you lost your compass but the 54 sighting compass is a far better compass,we have been using them for over 20 years (not the same ones) & have not regretted it.

I am looking forward to giving the Silva 54 a test run when the weather permits, does not look like this weekend though
