Cut Hill

I remember the days... Those lazy, hazy, crazy days when you visited Cut Hill and came home exhausted at dusk with 107 stamps.

Well those days are DEFINITELY over. I visited the place last week, and its a shadow of its former self. A very grassy shadow. Where is the box on every peat bank? Where is the box beneath every box on every peat bank? Where are the crowds of letterboxers on their pilgrimage? Where is that damned benchmark? Where's Derek??

I've only been to Cut Hill once. Hated every minute of it and didn't get one box. I know some people absolutely love it. I just got sore ankles from where I kept falling down holes.

You might have poked the holes you fell in - most of them would have had boxes in nearly all of them are plugged

Love the place and have collected several thousand boxes from that one hill alone. So many features up there and every one has many boxes off it.

Maybe I'll venture out one day then and have another go.

Some of my best and worst days boxing have been on this hill but it's always a great walk. My usual route is from Postbridge is via Broad Down, Cowflop bottom, Flat Tor, NW Passage to the summit; sadly no range notice boards anymore. Is this the best route?
Our yearly trot to Cut Hill will be in August when I hope to put out a box or two. Any clues on route gratefully recieved.

If anyone thinks Cut Hill is devoid of boxes then you are mistaken .I got most of my boxes in the early nineties but in the last 5 years I have unearthed 378 OLD boxes I did not have .My most recent trips i have been looking for CKs old Scroll boxes and others each can take a long time to find as the Range poles have moved twice since he put them out 13 years ago .To date half of the boxes on his list are on site .Many of the old boxes are so well hidden they may never be found again .Wayne Hathaway has at least 15 boxes on site from 15 years ago some found with clues others are chance finds ,there are more but the clues have been lost in the mists of time .Remember the boxes are there some clues dont work and others are extremely hard to locate .The haring around the hill series is nice but 3 remain elusive .Its a lovely place to box if you have the time and patience .

Have to agree with you Steve Cut Hill was and to my mind still the best - so far out that 'Fringers' not likely to find boxes by chance.
But as you have said some boxes may now never be found as a reault of the poles being resited over the years. Still have a lot out there myself!

I will be visiting soon as I have a number of boxes to check. Some of which have never been released.

Good luck with that one - hope you can find them now that the RP's have been moved and the RNB gone. All the other features should still be there though. Hoping to get out there soon myself - just waiting for the right weather!!!
