Do I have to wait till I find 100 boxes or can I buy clues now.Does this also apply to the meets or can any 1 attend.
Have been 6 days now but still only have 40 stamps-it is so frustrating that I have found double this ammount but so many are damaged or no stamp at all.
Any advice appreciated although I have visited areas where supposedly ther are many boxes

if you look on the forum there are address to find clues by buying a charity walk or two..

as for the catologue i think you can obtain this now, but they like you to atleast have 100 boxes so that they know your on your way to being a keep letterboxer.

My advice is when you find a box is to look at the name and address of the persons box you have found and then email them to say there box is safe any they might be able to send you more clues to there boxes that they have out on the moor.

hope this help.

Forgot to say if you search the internet there are a few sites that come up with the odd letterbox clue..

I do think people should have to still get 100 boxes first. There are to many books ending up in the wrong peoples hands like vandels who seem to enjoy taking the boxes.

Not sure I follow the logic here. Vandels can/ do find 100's of boxes with or without the clue list. I am of the opinion that less damage is done to the environment if one has the clue to follow rather than just poking around. :) :)

The best way to get your first 100 boxes which count towards your 100club badge is to buy the charity walks. They only cost £2-£3, but generally there are a minimum of 12 boxes and some have as many as 20. You can guarantee that number on a walk, plus on your way around there are usually plenty more not far from each box. Try the Mines walk together with the scouts and the Childrens primary school walk. All overlap each other on the Staple tors and Roos tor. I got over 50 boxes that day alone. Hope this helps. Charity walk details are on the forum.

its called the 100 club so I think that means 100 boxes. I got help with my first hundred from a few fellow boxers. Has goes for vandels they are everywhere.

100 club and buying the catalogue are different anyway aren't they? I know I got my first catalogue well before becoming an official 100 club member (I did have over 100 finds including non-Dartmoor ones). I agree with Gemma as to allowing the catalogues to be bought - I assume that most of the vandals have found well over 100 boxes anyway after all.

Main issue with having to have found 100 Dartmoor boxes before being allowed the catalogue is that it prevents keen letterboxers living well away from the moor to get it in advance. For example, you could have Americans who've found thousands of boxes over there, but seen as pure novices. A bit short-sighted in my view.

Disappointed with our letterboxing trip last week. Found over 40 boxes but less than half had stamps and very few had contact details. I guess, because we were looking in 'child friendly' sites - Hound Tor, Haytor, many of the boxes had been sited by kids.

we need to be a little careful who we encourage on the moor, if there are to many of us the DNPA will put a stop on it. Some areas of the Moor had to be fenced to stop Corrossion in the early 1990's.

There was a time (my early days) when a boxer had to go out and find 100 boxes that were in the catalogue - this didn't include WOM boxes or the kids boxes which in those days were exceptionally rare.

The idea behind this was to prove to the powers that be that you were genuinely interested in boxing
About 10 years ago Tony Moore conceeded all boxes count to the total as a lot of the WOM boxes out on the moor were of a higher standard.

The catalogue... There was a post about this the other day the catalogue is only published once a year now and the updates are available on a monthly basis.

We started in 1988 & our first trip was in the October, so we dropped into the Meet on our 2nd day of boxing. Tony sold us a catalogue knowing that we had only around 14 boxes. At that time we had no idea what WOM was and I guess as most have found a number of boxes that are very difficult to identify. This was never a barrier to claiming the relevant badges from Godfery. He was happy to accept a box providing it had a name or description of the stamp. having achived our 5000 back in 1997 so have no idea what one has to provide now. :D
