Letterboxing and Geocaching

I have been letterboxing for years on and off and enjoy it, but I do not enjoy walking for miles and finding the box is missing, pinched or other, but always enjoy the walk there.
With Geocaches we can look at the website and see if it has been found and if it has been seached for and not found, so we know the chances of it being there.
I am slowly being led to Geocaching because of this.
I try to combine the both, but get far more sucess to the Geo's.
I really enjoy useing the sighting compass to get in the right place for the box, but it really puts you off when there is nothing there on several occasions in the update it has said its been deleted or missing.
Well thats my moan for the month.

To the uninitiated can you please describe what 'Geocaching' is. I have already looked at other sites etc. etc. and still do not fully understand the point of what is being done.
