Is it within the rules to just go to Dartmoor and hunt fir them ?

It counts; there are no rules; that's the beauty of it! Make your own morality. Just poking about is called scavenging, and frequently delivers better returns than hours pursuing clues. Particularly in some of the hot spots you'll find detailed in other posts. Good luck,

There is only one main rule for letterboxes - They shalt not be installed in a historical structure (hut circle. wall or the like)

There are hundreds on Cut Hill, and only an idiot would put a box in a leat. Vixen Tor... well enough about that one.

OH BTW I forgot to mention no boxes are to be sited in dangerous places

I know that there are Hundreds on Cut Hill, but I was referring to the "Ground Nesting Sessional" ban. Should have made my self clearer.

Seems to me all the letterboxers here have forgotten - or not referred to the all important thing for letterboxers - 'the Code of Conduct' which has always been 'spelled out in the catalogues.

I never consider this as being the full 'gospel' since the DNPA and other interested 'bodies' can introduce other such 'laws' or 'restrictions', but it has always been a very keen quideline.

This CofC also shows the 'authorities that we , the letterboxers, are aware of the environmental issues and impact that our 'hobby' may have on the area. Furthermore that we are prepared to ensure that we abide by such CofC.

Further to my last post - I forgot to emphasize the other important consideration - the Army ranges.

Anyone considering venturing into the bounds of the ranges should be aware of the dangers, rules of entry, and 'firing times'. A leaflet to cover these points is readily available from DNPA places.
