Hi all,
Could anyone tell me if there are many boxes out near Riddon Ridge? Im trying to decide where to go over he next couple of days!

Also can anyone tell me when the catalogue of clues is updated. I bought my first one last Spring and i know that it's probably out of date by now!

Many thanks :D

The catalogue is updated every month available by e-mailing m.allderidge@btinternet.com for details. There will be a new catalogue available at the Spring meet.

if you are this far out with your updates - I would suggest waiting until March for the new catalogue

Hey thanks for replying....is there only one addition printed each year, in the spring?

Any ideas about Riddon Ridge?

Im hoping to put out my own box, keeping with a Dartmoor theme, tomorrow or Friday. Do people post clues on here? I wasn't going to register it as im worried about it being vandalised.

What are peoples views/rules on ammunition cans being used as letterboxes?

:D

Riddon Ridge

This has always been a popular area for short charity walks and God knows how many stamps for Snaily House over the years. It is a family friendly area - I have taken my grandchildren there boxing a few times.

No one can say any area of the Moor is safe from vandalism - or more simply put - theft. The closer to roads and popular areas gives more opportunity for the thief.

Over the last 10 years there has been a considerable decline in the use of Ammo cans. Back in the late nineties(correct me if I am wrong - not that it matters!) a young girl out on Gt Mis had a tragic accident with a live grenade in an ammo can. Since then there was a drive to deter anyone using ammo cans. I have not seem them used with new stamps since 2000. Then again I have not boxed all that much over the last 9 years.

The DNP advises against the use of ammo boxes and in some areas will remove them. Using plastic boxes or pill containers are far better.
To remove the labels from the latter fill pot with boiling water and peel off.

Preferably double pot you box as some idiot will no doubt chuck a huge rock on it or fail to secure the lid as it will get soaked.
Pots are easier to hide than the old fashioned bang box being somewhat smaller.

I always carry a couple of new pill pots and replace any damaged ones. I have hundreds of the things, so any of you want any just ask.

Thanks all for your replies.

Will get a new book of clues in March....we've not subscribed to the monthly updates because we live in Bedfordshire and only box when we're down staying with my mum in Teignmouth.

We went to Riddon Ridge today and along the river side near the stepping stones....didn't see anyone all day! Was very wet though....the last time we were out that way was last Easter, when it was a tiny incy bit drier!

We found 1 stamp!!! Though in our defence we weren't looking that hard as we were trying to find a suitable place to place our box!

Fingers crossed for more luck tomorrow, the sun is meant to be out too which is always a bonus :D

Happy new year to you all.
