A UK letterboxing blog?

This forum is great, despite its quiet periods. I guess I'm looking for more...

OK - I've searched and failed to find a true Dartmoor Letterboxing BLOG.

The opportunity to concentrate on subjects, places, boxes, people, days out and feedback with the useful addition of photos. I've found a few such blogs based in the USA. (USA letterboxing appears to slightly, and terrifyingly massive, but I guess everything is bigger in America. One site believes there are over 1000 boxes just in Salt Lake City. I don't know how big Salt Lake City is, but I bet its bigger than Dartmoor)

Has anyone found a such a Devon (or at least UK based) letterboxing blog? If not, why not?

Don't make me start one.

There used to be one on this site - I used to contribute to it occasionally - but with a few minor changes on the site it disappeared - no one was really interested. Maybe attitudes have since changed but Dartmoor has a weird effect on people where everyone gets laid back and gets everyone happy.
Maybe attitudes have changed so peeps m ight be interested in writing a blog again

Why is it that in such a Technologically advanced world we live in that we keep trying to find 'the next best thing' when in reallity what we have now is sufficient for our needs!(for many years to come!)

If others used this site as was intended then I am sure it would meet requirements - AND STILL KEEP UP TO DATE with present technology, thinking, trends and whatever!!!!

An old saying - use it or lose it!

'Hello - is there anyone else out there? (to the tune of the X Files! -ha!)

But a blog and a forum are completely different. A forum is a public meeting place for general discussion. A blog ('web log') is a private space for articles.

Although I agree that this forum is under-used, it seems to have lots of readers. Check out the view numbers on some of these posts. A blog doesn't require typed responses to survive like a post on this forum.

A blog is like a diary with the opportunity to reply and discuss if you so choose.

Also, and I am not a computer whizz, Blogs are technically much easier to design, update and insert images than the forum's format.

What are you going to do with a blog - as I said before there used to be one on here - but sadly interest was a bit sparse.
There is nothing to stop you putting up a blog like thread... now might be interesting because attitudes may well have changed.

I know I would be interested in reading the antics of some of our fellow boxers

I do not pretend to understand the workings of the multitude of things that go on via the 'net' etc.

But what does concern me is the security of information, on whatever!, that is passed via all these applications, not only that but also the vindictiveness, abuse, corruption, etc. that can be perpetrated by those of a mind to do so.

Surely a Forum, with responsible people as moderators is more an asset than an open site at todays level of ............(you decide what!)

Sorry I don't understand what advantage a blog has over a Forum. A blog is a one way "debate" Forum is a multi way "debate"

Nice idea WITC... I like it, even if I do seem to be the only one here who does!

I will be reading with interest.

Good idea WITC - I for one will be following 8)

Seems to me a simple solution - those that propose a 'blog' do so under their own volition. Those who wish to follow will do so - likewisw, those who are not interested in the blog (and do not trust its security!) will stay with the REAL letterboxing site!

The choice is YOURS!

Ok, so a forum is -

a place or medium for meeting, discussion or debate

and a Blog is -

an online diary; a personal chronological log of thoughts published on a Web page; also called Weblog, Web log

According to Dictionary.com

Its impossible to write on a forum where you have been on the moor detailing every observation. I for one will be following the WITC blog!

ummmm - Well actually WITC I enjoyed reading your 'blog' of your latest walk, so perhaps there is a use for a Letterboxing Blog. But it couldn't be on this forum as the pages would soon fill up with members writing whole page 'blogs' everytime they went out. Interesting to see how you display your stamps. I also sometimes stamp straight into a book, but because my stamping is so bad sometimes, find it best to stamp on paper pads, then cut them out and put them in the book. This is especially useful if you are doing a walk and the stamps are numbered. I usually end up doing walks backwards, so can still stick them in in the right order.

Looked at the 'blog' site - Not a lot to impress, and sorry but do not wish to identify myself with someone on a site that does not reveal themselves as the originators!

But - as I said - each to their own.

I could set up a sub-section on here if you are interested so you can write a blog ... which would have a time limit before it is deleted.
What does everyone think?

I like the idea of a blog too, and agree this is something quite different to a forum.

It would be fantastic to be able to read the diary of an active letterboxer - this was the idea behind setting up the 'ramblings' part to the website (http://www.dartmoorletterboxing.org/blog/index.php).

If anyone would like to take on this blog, then PM me and I'll have a go at setting it up again.
