maybe giving up the hobby of Letterboxing.

Its so sad that there are so many boxes, missing, broken or soaking wet, I remember when I was out 10 years ago we went out for 20 boxes and most were intact but now it seems that only half of them are. So when I go walking on the moors that I love, will not be looking for boxes with clues anymore, just get the ones I come accross. It is so annoying to get in the correct place of a box with a clue and a 4 figure grid ref. and find nothing.
BUT THE LETTERBOX BUG MAYBE TO STRONG FOR ME TO STOP, but I am considering it.

I agree with you about the condition of some of the boxes out there - but bear in mind weh have had one of the coldest wettest winters for a very long time.
Instead of giving up boxing try to encourage everyone out there to get out and look after their boxes...
Anyway you can't give up letterboxing you are addicted to it and there is no real cure

 Been out today around Hartland Tor and over to Stannon - 46 boxes collected. All in very good condition - Lovely sunny day but chilly wind. Can't believe anyone would want to give up this hobby and of course walking on Dartmoor!!!!

I was told by a friend John that I am not allowed to give up, if I give up he will to, because due to health he cannot drive. Since I said I may give up, I have planned a walk just North of Two Bridges, so the bug may be to strong.
Good to hear that 46 boxes were all in good condition, just I went through a spell in the Autumn finding some in bits, missing and soaked.
Saying this I have not checked mine for 6-12 months.

 I think we all have good boxing days and bad ones. Some days I have gone out armed with pages of clues and crossed off only a couple or so. Hunted for ages and found nothing - when I get home, I am usually miserable and threatening to give it up. Then off I go again and have a brilliant day - boxes jump out at you - and once again 'all is well with the world' In this game you have to take the rough with the smooth and get out and try again. Enjoy whilst the limbs and brain still work!!!!!

Can I ask whether the 46 were from the catalogue or from scavenging. 46 would give me the 100 I need for the catalogue, but if they are 'well hidden' then I may head elsewhere to hit the ton.

Obviously keen to get the catalogue so I can plan trips across from Sussex to be more beneficial.

Many thanks.

Hi, most were from scavaging around Hartland and Stannon. On the east slopes of Hartland there is one virtually under every other rock. Over on Stannon, just above the Sheepfold there are some lovely stamps around there. If you need about that for your 100, why not go there and have a look, OR get to the meet and buy some charity walks. If you can't get to the meet, I will post on here the details of any walks advertised on the updates or sold at the meet. Two already out are

Hope this helps.

Many thanks.

Probably not going to make the meet as it's a fair way from Sussex, but may try for some once I've 'hit the first target', so hopefully the Autumn one I'll be able to make and collect at least one badge (though more would be nice! :P ).

You don't need to find 100 to obtain the clue list, & there is only one meet (March) these days.

Good luck with your 100.

Ummmmmm only one meet?????? Where did you get that from Gemma ???
There are always 2 meets on clock change days - one in the Spring (March) one in the Autumn (October). I think you are thinking of the catalogue - there is only one catalogue now available at this next meet at the end of the month.

How long would it take for a catalogue to be sent to me, wondering if I could get it before I headed down over Easter?

Is it a case they are ready printed or printed to order? Are there e-versions as would happily accept that instead!

Thanks for the advise, didn't realise you didn't have to wait for the 100 anymore!
