Hi folks,

I'm planning on heading down the the Cox Tor / Pew Tor area of the moor this coming Saturday and was wondering if anyone could give me a heads up on what the moor is like in terms of being waterlogged. With all the rain we've had in Sussex there's a lot of waterlogged areas on the South Downs and was wondering if it was the same on the moor.

Many thanks.

(Will be with two other friends so if any of you see three people, two blokes and a relatively short girl (her choice of description) wandering around those areas, feel free to say hi) :D

:( Sadly the moor is very wet and at the moment covered in a layer of snow. We are expecting a lot of rain on Friday so that might wash it away. The wind chill is worth checking though as today it was back down to -9deg. Check out the Powder Mills webcam which will give you all the info you want for Dartmoor. its at http://www.dartcom.co.uk/dartcam/index.php

Have to agree - there was standing water on the slopes of Hound tor on Tuesday... yes you read it right... standing water on a slope.

However Cox Tor/ Pew Tor was not covered in snow when I had a look this afternoon though Princetown had 4" of the stuff.

As mentioned up there WIND CHILL is going to be the critical factor but I am hoping that we are going to have a day or two without the wind

Went out today and did a very far reaching scour of the Moors.
Held up at Princetown for 45 mins - 4" snow !, snow plow and gritter and long queue of traffic.
Real mix of weather for the day - sun, wind, rain, hail, sleat, cold, and snow!

By the afternoon local areas to Princetown, Yelverton and back to Plymouth were clear !

Keep a look out though!

Cheers for the info and the link. Looked like the white stuff from thismorning was gone by this-afternoon so will probably head down there and just make sure I have a change of clothes (as well as shoes) for the drive home.

I don't know about Cox Tor / Pew Tor but I went on the Southern part of the moors today and it was very wet under foot with a bitterly cold wind. But it was not enough to deter a good walk.

lovely and wet, I love it, it gives me the moor to myself. Only tuff walkers go out when its so bad, or should i say us stupid ones.

Beautiful up there today though - a real bonus for the holiday! Still ridiculously wet underfoot but who cares when the sun's out and the sky is blue!

Firstly - Hio Scratcher - Welcome to the Forum...

Secondly - I have been dodging showers all week going to various places on the moor from North to South East to West nearly raked in a 100 boxes for my efforts in the week I will be sad and sorry to go back to London where the smelly air is.
Might try to get to Ugborough Beacon tomorrrow and see if I can hit the magic 100 before I return - depends upon the weather though

And all without clues map or compass!
