Out in the open ...

Hi,

Out on a little dogwalk / scavenge today I bumped into "Personalities - Jamie Oliver". It was lying on the ground at the bottom of a gulley. It had not been found (or at least logged in the book) since 2008.

And then 4ft up the bank I find a really old box sited in 1995 (log in a good condition as well) which had also not been found for over 2 years.

The personalities box had no address in it and there was no obvious hidey hole (other then the old box) so I hid them in the same place, I hope that was ok.

And then about 25 meters around the corner I find yet another box sited this year and found a lot as well. Do people not have a little scout in the area when they find new boxes to see if there are more? It was right next to a very obvious landmark.

Jamie Oliver is Personalities number 628 near Yennadon cross. Clue says under stone in bank of hollow. There is another Personalities no: 672 nearby. Can you say the name of the 'old box' as it may have been deleted from the catalogue. If it is on site and in good condition you need to let the Aldridges know so that they can notify the owner and put it back in the catalogue. There are a few boxes on the Down both sides of the road.

The old one had a picture of a cross and the name Yennadon in a gothic font written next to it. If I remember correctly some of the people in the book thanked "Bob" for putting it out.

edit: The personalities one was carved out of a W.H. Smith rubber - I have not got a catalogue, but are you saying the person that put this series out has at least 672 handmade stamps?

Ha - yes afraid so - he is up to over 700 now. They are usually very cryptic - but not being very clever at those, I usually wait for someone else to solve them :? They are very well cut, with the name of the 'personality' carved on the sides, so you stamp the face, then turn the rubber to stamp above and below with their name. Pers 628 is reg box no;41542.

I did find out something about the Personality series last time I was down there. Once the box is out he never goes back to the box, but has a lot of friends who will look after the boxes

How interesting to hear someone hand carves stamps, especially that many!! Surely it must be easier to have a stamp making company produce these for you?
Never-the-less whoever carves these must be a very dedicated boxer.

His friends should check on "Dustin Hoffman" (not sure what number this is) as I found the book to be rotten. The stamp was placed on top of the inner pillpot causing the top lid (which had a crack in it) not to close properly I think. Given the location I found it .. it had gotten a bit wet :)

Sadly caused by the minority of boxers who really don't care about a box once they have the stamp.
Pill pots are great except they are not rock proof
