hi all, noobie here,

as i am new to letterboxing, (havent actually looked yet), i thought id be a little cheeky and ask for some help, as you can guess from my username im a wildcamper and like to get away as far from civilization as possible and i thought this would be a good opportunity to find my 1st box, can anyone tell me what the most obscure out of the way and hardest to find letterbox is, (i dont have a catalogue), or any clue as to where i may find it, i just thought it would be cool if my 1st box was the hardest to get to, could only get easier from there.

as they say if you dont ask you dont get

thanks in advance and any help would be appreciated

regards

O.K. Furthest for me now since they closed the Ring Road would be Cranmere Pool, then Fur Tor, then Ducks Pool.
Cranmere is a concrete memorial box as is Ducks Pool which is a memorial to William Crossing. Fur Tor is classed as the Queen of the North and the main letterbox is on the tor.

Welcome to the site Wildcamper.
There are plenty of obscure boxes scattered all around the moor - in years gone by there used to be a box hanging from a tree in Wistmans Wood - needless to say not many people found it as they were all looking on the ground and not up in the tree!
There was the Staple Tor Skier which was attached to the end of a 10' rope in a hole - that was pretty obscure.
But for the "hat Trick" you do need to do Cranmere Pool, Ducks Pool and Fur (Vur) Tor. These are the ones marked on the OS maps and you can get a badge for these boxes.

When I say you can get a badge for these - you might have to hunt for them

I was lured into the hobby about two years ago, when I found a couple of boxes in a simple location. One was ruined and the other was in decent shape, though it was fairly new.

Last Month, I returned to the UK to drop my own letterbox. I don't imagine that I will be part of the 100 club, simply because I do not make it to dartmoor often. But, I can understand the need for secrecy. Hopefully my box will survive. I hid it well and put it in a double container.

What is the best way (from here in the US) to drop a hint to the right group of people so they may enjoy finding this letterbox. I have GPS coordinates and a series of pictures. Finding the spot would not likely be good enough for some, since it's in a tight spot. Reaching your hand in, you will not find it. It's around an unseen corner in the crevice, so you'd have to reach your hand in and then around!

You could send your clue to Angela to put in the catalogue or you could send it to myself or Woodstock or The Wandering Artist who are all on this forum to circulate through the WOM email list.

Thanks. When I come up with a suitable clue, I'll do just that! Thanks.
