Hart Tor / Cramber Tor

Hello all,

Took myself out on a pleasant walk today, principally to discover the old range below Hart Tor. Having recently been bitten by the 'boxing bug' (but being a seasoned grey haired walker) I decided to carry out a 'recce' for boxes around Hart Tor, and later Cramber Tor.

Now I appreciate that my vision is not what it once was, plus I'm coming at this from novice eyes, but did my best look at the terrain from a boxers point of view (ie nose to the ground and backside up) but sadly to no avail.

I have put it down to experience - and dealing with disappointments a good lesson in life  . I also appreciate that some areas are probably less (box) populated than others, but I am just curious to know if any are located in those areas. I'm not expecting any declared locations etc - just curious, and won't throw my toys out of the pram if someone promptly tells me that they found 10+ only the day before.

BTW - I also discovered that along with my 'not so perfect sight', that I cannot leap across leats with the same agility as I once could  Apologies if you were the nice couple with the dog some distance away - you may have heard a bit of splash coupled with an expletive. (safety note; yes, I had left my route/timings with a neighbour)

Happy to take a PM rather than a post here if preferred.

Thanks,

A (of K&A; The Thinkers)

it all comes from practice, and knowing what to look for takes time, as every letterboxer hides there stmaps in differetn ways, it is only after time you come to relise that when you sit on a rock to have you lunch your feet are ontop of a letterbox that someone has covered over with grass.........

Last time I was around Hart Tor there were at least 6 boxes around there - but having said that it may well be in the area that has been swept by the farmers... Cramber Tor was not exactly known for having a lot of boxes on it though it is the only tor I have ever got a stamp from the very top of the tor (now since gone).

Thank you both for your replies.

@ 'MW' - Yes, the first box I found was under a rock that had been my backrest during lunch break - perhaps I should take those breaks more often! :)

@ NIK - Thanks for the info, will check a litle more thoroughly next time. Cramber Tor does seem to be a pretty solid lump that just emerges straight out of the surrounding peat. Stopped there for coffee but seemed to have invaded the 'airspace' of some quite testy flying things that had clearly made a prior claim - I left them to it.

Thanks again
