When things go missing from boxes ...

The Thinkers

Hello all,
From readng the posts, it seems that items go missing from boxes for a number of reasons. These range from outright vandalism/theft, not being put back correctly, perhaps taken by the boxer themselves, or geocachers who may mistake box contents as 'trinkets' to be taken away.

To try to reduce the latter, we have added a note to our box stating that it is a letterbox and not a geocache site. We welcome geochachers to stamp their visit - but to 'not remove any of the contents - please'.

On that note we found (by chance) a geocache site with a very nice medallion that seemed to be part of a 'race'. I couldn't quite work out what was going on - but the engraving seemed to suggest that the 'medal' should be taken to the next site as part of a relay. Not being GC's we replaced it where it was found.

Best wishes,

Yeah well - I think Geocache boxes should be limited to certain areas because Dartmoor letterboxing ... well belongs to Dartmoor - Goecaching seems to have the rest of the world
