Hello all,
I've always letter boxed for fun when im on the moors, but never collected stamps. Im due to get married this year, and my partner has suggested that we put togther a box and place it the day after we get married.
I Know we need a book, stamp and a post card for the first finder. But is there anyother items we need to place in the container.
Also is there any tors which would be relevant to us getting married of any advisable tor to use

Many Thanks

Parkes

Hi there, congratulations on your forthcoming wedding. What a lovely idea to put out a box to celebrate this. Lots of people put out boxes commemorating special events, wedding, births, deaths, pets deaths etc.. All you need is a sturdy waterproof container, an appropriate stamp and a small notebook with your contact details in for people to stamp up in when they visit. You might also like to put a stamped address postcard in the box for the first finder to send back to you. Then you need to find a place to hide it, take a good clue with near and far bearings. Then get in touch with the Alderidges to register your box and put it in the catalogue. You could leave it though as a WOM (word of mouth) box and just pass the clue around to your friends first. The box doesn't necessarily have to be placed on a tor, best to site it away from a tor to avoid the box being taken. Good Luck.

Congratulations Parkes, and welcome to the forum.

An appropriate tor...hmmm... There aren't many romantic sounding places on the Moor. Hart Tor/Hartland Tor perhaps? Wrong spelling, but the thought is there! Keble Martin Chapel near Huntingdon Warren saw a hikers wedding in the 1990s, and is a good spot. There is of course Wedlake, Lovers Leap, and Kiss-in-the-ring (aka The Dancers stone circle).

A good place would be Keeble Martins Church, but doubt if you would find it on your own. Another good place is the 'Lovers Trees'. This is a couple of hawthorns with their trunks entwined on the slopes of Bench Tor near Venford Reservoir, less than a mile from the road, but out of site of the public. They are roughly at 690 718

What a grand idea - nice and thoughtful.

We have also added a little note in our box (Laughter Tor) to the effect that it is a letterbox and not a geocache site. We welcome geocachers to sign the book - but do advise them that the box contents (stamp, book, inkpad and pencils) are not trinkets, so please not to remove anything.

Best wishes, be happy and have lots of fun and laughter on the way :D
