It's mostly automated bots that harvest phpbb boards via google searches. Really very annoying :(

We have been irrated by the increasing number of mainly Americans who can join this Forum. Why are'nt they and all other prospective new members screened before being allowed membership?
It will be interesting to see the new membership total number (which as of today is running at 863) after all these accounts are removed.

I may be an administrator on here, but I don't own the site, I have requested a Capcha id to register for this site, but as yet heard nothing...
And btw it was 873 yesterday

Our previous post was not directed at you personally, it was a comment directed at this Forums inadequate vetting or screening of new members and the proliferation of their Non Letterboxing web sites.
When we viewed the Membership List yesterday the, at that moment in time the total stood 863.
We have discussed this issue with Maureen ( Sowerby Streaker) her conclusion was for us to contact you, as she had no idea who Tomp was.
She also mentioned that she had no idea who the Boo boxers were.

Looking at the earlier part of the Membership List we note that it contains some very big names within the Dartmoor Letterboxing community. Unfortunately since we joined this Forum many of them seem to have lost interest in the Forum, but they to our knowledge are still very active Letterboxers.
We ourselves have been Letterboxers for more than 20 years.

:( If anyone logged on yesterday morning you would have seen about 15 posts from these spammers. I deleted their posts, but when I logged on again in the afternoon there were another 5/6. Fortunately Nik was on the ball and deleted their accounts. Main problem is they log on during their daytime - nightime to us - and just flood our site with their websites. Its only when we log on in the morning that we see them.

Not sure what the Admin or owner of the site can do about it though. We do try to keep the site clean, but its getting very frustrating for genuine members if you log on before Nik or I delete the threads.

So sorry, but we are doing the best we can. :(

AS an admin for a forum, I can emphasize with Nik, it is very difficult to stop spam, even with CAPCHA in place. It is also, in my view not easy to stop folk from registering & then check that they are logging on. It can be done but is a fag. Then what does one do if they are not logging on regularly.? Rock & hard place!!

From my point I just delete the spam. Not much else one can do.
