Fur Tor or Vur Tor on NYD?

Both are known as Fur Tor, but on NYD I will be at Fur Tor (South Moor).

Who is going to brave the elements and make it to the North Moor destination?

 Not able to go to either - still suffering with Bronchitis - hopy you enjoy the day. Might make it to the pub though in Princetown to get the New Years Day stamps

Looks like I'll be at the Kings Arms 6499 9375, in the company of "The sticklepath Tipisters" (mummers) and morris dancers ,rather than on the moor, However there is a letterbox in the kings and I have just made Mr Clever-eyes a dated personal stamp so he can "claim " the pub box.
IF I manage to get the wording carved right in time there will be a new box put out on the moor tomorrow to commemorate said mummers play. I shall have clues at the Kings, and shall place a copy of clue in the Tinners Morris Letter box behind the bar.

Got Fur Tor on the North Moor @ 588 831 but Fur Tor on the South Moor??
Fur Tor NORTH looks like it will be a bit icky?
Whatever the weather Reg and I will give it a go (especially if there is an ALE involved) but as we say in Cornwall "WHERE TO?" :?

Well we squelched over to Fur Tor South, watched a couple of dogwalkers on the track, hopped from foot to foot getting damper, checked on Frank's box, got damper still, wandered off & found a box, scampered back - still no-one. 10 to 12 decided well we've never been before - perhaps people actually meet on the big tor - 10 minutes of serious puffing later & guess what - no-one there either. Trekked back to the car, drove to the Prince of Wales & BINGO, there they are - and have been all the time. Quick 'Happy New Years' and hand round of choccies I'd just taken for a nice long walk & we took our dripping selves off home for a warm shower. Good job the weather was so clement otherwise my idea to try this route this year (joined the NYD at Fur Tor North for the first time last year), might have proved unpopular!

THANKS Woodford Wanderers. Found Fur Tor South with your help and got there bang on 12!
Looks like I just missed "The Restells" (Reg and I where the dog and walker down on the track) I did however have the pleasure of bumping into "The Nesty Crew" down from Bedford and braving the elements.
WAY TO GO NESTY CREW!
Looks like the inclement weather kept the "fair weather fringers off the moor? lol

I was there at Fur Tor South as well at around 12:00 but didn't see anybody there. We must have all just missed each other. Shame as it was my first time going on New Year's Day. Not that it matters now but I was the one walking around in a blue jacket with a black Labrador.

It was lovely meeting some new boxers today and being able to put faces to names :D We were so disappointed it started raining as we could've stayed all day swapping stories .... but hey it's the moors! We did stay up there for a while longer, making the most of our time down South before heading home tomorrow

We did meet Reg the Bullmastiff and his daddy  a bit later on... Such a shame that so many people turned up at 12pm only to find people had been and gone

On the plus side people now know where to go in a years time :P We hope to meet up with more of you in the future.. Happy New Year to you all we hope you are blessed with good health & happiness for 2012 and have many many many hours spent up on the moors :D

It was pleasant meeting everyone at Fur Tor (South) until the rain decided it was going to put a damper on the days proceedings at 10.50, I think the majority of us hung around for a further 10 minutes before deciding to retreat to Prinncetown. I struggled to hang around for as long as I could before going home and snoring my way through the two films on the BBC in the afternoon.

Fur Tor (N) was fairly misty and damp, but not nearly as bad as I thought it would be and perhaps better than Fur Tor (S). My other half, perhaps wisely, chucked me out of the car at the Dartmoor Inn near Lydford then went off for a family pub lunch at Haytor Vale. She drove through some very heavy rain past Princetown while I only had a couple of lighter showers on the way in and a mostly dry walk back out. The sun even tried to break through at one point. An atmospheric first new year pilgrimage for me. Definitely plan to be back next year. Thanks to the Kirkpatricks for the stamp.
