why is it that before the weekend i had 96 boxes and decided that this was the weekend to get past the magic 100 then after 2 days out all i get is one box :(

i suppose its what letterboxing is all about a few weeks ago i had a chance encounter with a couple called the bristoll rovers who kindly let me tag allong and i got 36 in one day

also on the upside i have explored a new part of the moor i hadn't been to before and managed to avoid the heavier showers which is allways nice :)

Told you bigdave get out East of the Fox and Hounds you will get a bucket full.
I stalled in the high 90's so decided to get to 99 and stop. Then I walked on to Cranmere Pool to get the 100th. I wouldn't suggest you do that with the weather like it is. You would have to SWIM there!...... I went in the winter when the weather was better than it is now!

Nearly there Dave ... keep going.

I recommend you head off to Brat Tor and the surrounding area, or maybe Pew Tor. You could almost double your finds in a single day.

Have you got the charity walk that goes around there??? There are 20 boxes in that one alone and if you follow the route up the Lyd you can pick up loads and loads more without going out of your way. Its the German Shepherd rescue walk.

Takes me back about ten years ago when I was out on Down Tor doing a charity walk, when I came across a young girl who was distraught in a bunch of brownies/girl guides. She was upset at only having 99 boxes to her collection and was being forced to go home without finding her 100th box.
It was her lucky day, I gave her my traveller, though I think she would have been happier with a proper box.
Her problem was the group was a large group of 14 which slowed her down.

The optimum size for a group I think is 6, though I prefer to go it alone.
My 100th box was Tims Box a memorial box which used to go out on his birthday and went back in on the anniversary of his passing, a sad box really as he died from leukemia.

That is very sad Nik. I do love to find such boxes.

My 100th was a Beatrix Potter (No4?) box. I think it may have been part of a charity walk. I never did find out the number for it. I found it accidently, very close to Four Winds car park, whilst on my way to Kings Tor. The plan was for the original Kings Tor box (No.40 if I remember correctly) to be the 100th. But I never found it anyway ... just a smashed wooden box at the bottom of the quarry

off for a few hours today so hope to be in the 100s by the time i come back but as i have allready found out you never know what you will find :)

i have tried to get a few boxes with some clues i have been given but don't seem to be having too much success with those so will need a lot more practice at it before i go getting the proper walks hopefully i will be good enough at it by the time the next meet comes around

Thanks Nik, that would be great.
If it's any help ... I found it in 1990, and the following box I found was called Longstone on Longash Common (no. 9,413)

I am going to have to dig somewhat deeper... I dunno when I am going to find it... but I will keep looking
Why not scan/photograph it and put it on the "And this stamp is?" section?

Well Done for getting your first hundred boxes. We have been stuck on 950 ish for ages, mainly because I had about 10 weeks of Shingles so didn't go out. Anyway we eventually clawed our way up and reach our 1,000 box at Nuns Cross ( a WOM walk). But it was bitter sweet. We had our Jack Russell Millie with us that day, as we always do, she is part of the team. She suddenly stumbled and then started to limp, she had a cut on her front leg, then suddenly she couldn't walk, and Lyn put her in the rucksack, it took us an hour to get back to the car and straight to the vets, but it was too late, she died of an adder bite. Vet said it was because she was a small dog, and early in the season snakes are full of venom. So just a warning to people watch your dog, we never even saw the snake. So our first thousand boxes will always be tinged with sadness.

Deepest sympathy in loosing a member of your family!
Nasty little buggers them (adders). I got bit some time back, it was not pleasant.
Like you wisely say "A LESSON TO ALL?"
Again deepest sympathy on your loss.
