Bellever Tor

Today, Ant and I visited Bellever Tor. With us, we had two brand new letterboxers ready to get their Letterboxing wings. Parking at Higher Cherrybrook carpark, we followed the paths through the saturated forest to the back end of the tor.

After a slow start, keeping to the outskirts of the tor, we started to collect some boxes. To be honest, Bellever was a tough introduction for the newbies, many moss covered rocks and the boxes we found were so hard to find. The terrain is hard going, lots of clumps, gorse and very little smooth grass.

In 2.5 hours we found 8 boxes, some really nice WOM boxes and some old boxes too. Also had the misfortune to find another 2 Geocaches!
This walk is not really for newbies and also don't expect to hit big numbers, more a good tor to cross off the list if you have a spare couple of hours.

Well done... did you put the brand new letterboxers back where you found them?
Were they hooked? How old were they? So many questions

I like Bellever, mainly because of the views but, the last time I was up there I think I got 14 boxes including one very hard to find WOM box (hadn't been found in three years if the book was anything to go by), but that was about 3 years ago!

Why have you got such a problem with finding geocaches? Can you not simply ignore them and move on?

Hi Nik, they were both in their late 20s and both seemed to enjoy it. They even said they had friends that would most probably like to letterbox. Your right, the views are fantastic up there.

No problem with Geocaching, anything that gets people active and on Dartmoor is great. Just frustrating when you have gone a while without finding a letterbox and then you find a geocache!
