Hello everyone, this is our first post after joining. :D

We have a question for all you hardy boxers out there. After a recent visit to the local pub, we met a chap who suggested that Amicombe hill has a number of letterbox’s to be had. So last week we headed off from Lydford to the hill, when we got there we found a baron, boggy hill, with few rocks and finally after three hours no letterbox’s. The question is, have we just been had or is there box’s on this hill? :?:

 Hi welcome to the forum - there are plenty of boxes on Amicombe Hill!!! They are mainly WOM (Word of mouth) and very sneakily hidden. No good looking under rocks up there, they are usually plugged in peat hags or in grassy tussocks etc...
If you are new to letterboxing as well, you would have done better to stay lower down on Arms, Brat, Doe tor. Hundreds of them around there under the rocks.

Hi Tim & Jen,
Welcome to the forum..... As Mo said there are loads of boxes out there, what you didn't say is how experienced in boxing you were. Judging by your first post, confidence certainly isn't an issue.
Also be very wary of what some people in a pub, usually it is the truth, but the truth from 10 years ago.
Amicombe Hill is probably a slightly more "advanced" letterboxing site as the method of looking for these boxes is a bit different to the box under the rock method

Hi Nik & Mo

Thanks for the replies. In terms of experience, we have been boxing regularly again for about four years, before that we used to letterbox in the mid to late 90's as teenagers. We have covered a lot of the easy access areas of the moor and are now venturing further afield to new places we haven’t been to.

Will aim to have another go around Amicombe hill at some point this summer. It does give you some great views of the heart of Dartmoor! :)

We are aiming to go to Fur Tor, via Tavy Cleave in the next few weeks, as again this looks to be a great part of the moor.

Thanks again
