Question about new letterboxes! :/

Ok i discovered letterboxing about a year ago. I know where many are, but i will start collecting stamps at Xmas.
Back in January i decided to put a letterbox out (god knows why, it was extremely foggy and pouring with rain that day!!), i put a nice (dartmoor related!!) stamp in etc etc. But how to i get this box registered on the guide, do i need to make up some clues or something or other? lol ive tried researching it, but no joy.

Shame im at Uni at the moment, i miss dartmoor :(

Welcome to the forum Cazzibear.

Have a good look at this website:

http://www.userfriendly-devon.com/100club/index.html

Part of this website states for registering boxes:

"To have your letterbox registered and entered into the Catalogue and Updates, please send the details to Tony Moore."

The address is available from the above website.

turns out someone has moved it now. i went in january hoping to see who has written in it for a years worth. was quite disapointed really :( i just hope its been moved to another location, not taken away. it was before i could register it too which was annoying, cuz that was what i was planning on doing that day! - getting the location coordinates etc.
gurrrr!

That is so frustrating Cazzibear - you must be really disappointed.

I always think it is a shame when people have gone to so much trouble to make/get made a special stamp. Let's hope some people got some enjoyment out of it anyway.

A tip about siting letterboxes - keep them away from "Tourist areas" if you are going to site one near a Tor (Say Haytor) then put it about 400 metres away from the obvious tracks so a real boxer will look for it and it is less likely to be tripped over.

Then you only have to worry about the Dartmoor letterbox thief to contend with.... who ever that may be

long time since ive replied! sorry

i placed it near to pill tor, basically walking away from pill tor and top tor(which is on the road to hound tor) , across the little road there and up near the top of the hill in front. cant give a more exact location than that.
im still thinking its such a shame that its moved, as i did really try to avoid any touristy areas, ive never seen anyone there before!

Would anyone mind if I posted some info on the forum regarding our charity walk at Sourton, as a box has gone missing, and would like to warn anyone who may have bought the walk but not done it yet?

Su,

happy new year, there is a charity walk section on here which might be better to put it in.

Image Hi Cazzibar, can you tell us what your stamp was like, then if we come across it we can take bearings etc and let you know where it is. SS

Ok my stamp was half home made, on a green painted small block of wood, the actual rubber stamp was of a sort of celtic style horse, quite a simple design.
hope it is found..! although its probably unlikely. I'm probably going to have a look when i go home at easter.

I suspect that is the case for most of the peole who come on here - they have forgotten who and what is in their favourites list. If their list is anything like mine it is enormous so sites tend not to be visited too often
