Just had this daft question come to my mind.

What is the strangest thing that has happened to you while out Letterboxing?

I will have to think about that question cos now I have asked I should put my own up.

Strangest thing I saw - and to a point something quite funny too, was seeing a cow in a bucket....

Was walking around Pew Tor (where else) when we, the Wobbly Booty and I, happened to come across this cow - now this cow was not a very well cow :(.

We spent about thirty minutes trying to keep this cow in a vertical position when the farmer turned up with a trailer attached to the back of a tractor
(Can you see the problem that is about to unfurl here) Immediately I saw that there was going to be no way that the three of us were going to lift half a ton of cow onto the back of the trailer, and there was no way the cow was going to jump onto the trailer either.

Farmer disappears off into the distance... and comes back with another tractor, his idea was going to be to drag this poor animal back to the farm :o
Then one of us had a brilliant idea, just to roll this cow into the bucket and let the farmer drive away with the cow.

I had this image left firmly printed into my brain of the legs of this cow sticking out of the bucket and being driven across the moor!

Good one Nik! :D

I remember a few years ago I was walking from Four Winds car park towards Kings Tor for another days letterboxing fun. When we went down to the first stream before Kings Tor (7.30am), there stood two naked early twenties man & women bathing in the stream.

I don't know who was shocked the most, me or them! Mind you it was a sight I will never forget, oh the beauties of the moors!

They were camping nearby, and ran quickly covering themselves up with only their hands. Don't you hate it when your camera is tucked deaply in your rucksack!

Funny you should mention naked people on Dartmoor. Four years ago I was asked to act as guide to a group of walkers who wanted to walk the Dartmoor Forest Perambulation covering 50 miles, we walked the route over 3 days. It was the hottest weekend of the year. We started off from Princetown on the Saturday just past Eylesbarrow heading toward Plym Ford; we had our first sighting of a naked man who promptly sat down when he saw 15 people heading his way. Later that day we were heading up the Wellabrook to Ryders Trig and this is where we had our second sighting, this man just got dressed when we approached. Our third and last sighting was as we were walking down O Brook another man was sun bathing naked except for a hat which was placed to spare our blushes!! One of our walking group (a man) commented why is it always men who like to go around like this?

There was one occasion - but unfortunately it was far too explicit to publish on here - but it happened up by the top of Burrator Reservoir, a warm Sunday afternoon and - well let your WILD imagination do the rest and I doubt if you would be too far out with what we saw

I've swum naked on the Moor on several occasions.
