where do you get yours?.

I have had a shop around for those click lock boxes and some of the prices for the smaller ones dont half vary from 99p to £1.99, I think I might add a price comparison list to this post to give people an idea.

I have tried the local chemist only to be told no you cant have them its illegal!

Thanks for this post, I was also wondering the same thing aswll. I know that I did see some pill pots at the last letterboxing meet, in a cardboard box on the floor. When I looked again I noticed that all the larger pill pots had gone and only the smaller pill pots were left, which wouldnt be much good if you had a larger stamp to place on the moor!!! I think that these pill pots were free to take anyway.

What the phamacist told you was a load of Bull sh*t they can't be bothered to stick them in a bag and hope you might turn up to take them away. Try another chemist, if you manage to get any the way to remove the labels is to fill the pot with boiling water and then they come off easily.

Any pot will do - I have even seen them in film cannisters, ammo boxes, biscuit tins. and one occasion a plastic bag.
But would seriously recommend that they are double potted and waterproof.

The Lock n Lock boxes are on QVC, which I think are by far and away the best boxes out there - however - they aint that cheap, and like a pill pot dont like having rocks dropped on them.

Bought some of the Lock'n'lock boxes in Tesco yesterday for a walk charity walk that I am putting out £1.42 each. Trago mills were stocking them at one time but the last few times we have been seemed to be out of stock.
Other suggestion that I have is that some letterboxers from Birmigham sourced pill pots direct from the suppliers but they would only sell a whole box. If enough people got together this could be a possibility.

I get mine free from a chemist in Tavistock, they are only too pleased to get rid of them.

I get the same problem down here in Torbay. All the chemists I've been in to and that's a lot of them, have either said that they send the containers back for recycling, or most of the tablets they get in now come in cardboard boxes.

I thought that Ammo boxes were not allowed on the Moor.
Perhaps I have got it wrong

Not sure about this, I was under the impression that ammo boxes were allowed but not recomended due to one's placed in firing ranges by letterboxers, you never know what you might be opening.

I am sure the parks authority banned the ammo boxes some years ago.At on time the Rangers were removing them & leaveing laminated notices, informing Letterboxers of their removel. Unless things have changed in the past years, preety sure thay haven't. Could be wrong !!

Thinking back Gemma, I do remember something like that taking place. As you know there are still many ammo boxes on the moors but the owners either don't check their boxes, or they cannot be bothered to replace them with a toughened plastic version.

I might start looking for e-mail addresses in these boxes and e-mailing them with our thoughts. Mind you, that's when the owners details are available, usually either washed out or not in the book.

Thanks

I wish you luck, as you say lots are now nothing more than Litter, as lots have been abandoned. shame gives the Letterboxing community a bad name.

Would it be a better option to alert the owner to the error of their ways.

I am sure the Parks Authority would not be best pleased if they found lots of Ammo boxes.

May be I have got it all wrong!

i think the problem is... if people see an ammo box and are unaware of letterboxing they can get worried and phone bomb disposal

Well... it is better to be safe than sorry - I would rather every letterbox was blown up by bomb disposal than see a child get hurt by a piece of ordinance that was left in a bang box by an irresponsible squaddie.

But from my point of view the bang box used to be the best until the lock and lock boxes came along - the bang box used to go rusty - it used to fill up with water - only cos the owner of the box couldn't be bothered to check on their property

Yes agree ammo is bad news all round.

Having looked on the 100 Club page found the follow

For all letterbox owners, please ensure that:
· You look after and maintain your letterbox.

· All letterboxes are watertight and contain a contact telephone number and / or address in the visitors’ book to make sure that you can be easily contacted if the need arises.

· Metal containers, such as ammunition boxes, are not used as letterboxes. This is at the request of the Ministry of Defence, because metal containers may become confused with potentially dangerous military debris.
· Letterboxes are placed only in existing natural holes or cavities. Under the bylaws it is an offence to damage land.

· You try as far as possible to position your letterbox at a distance from other existing letterboxes.

· Letterboxes are not cemented or in any other way permanently fixed in place.

Thought I was correct.
