Important items to take when letterboxing

How's this for very silly :?:

Drove out to Dartmoor early this morning, got to the first letterbox. Went to stamp in and guess what I'd forgotten - my box with my pad and inks in. Long drive home and then back - started at the box again 2 hours later.

Apart from the dodgy start, I had a lovely day out around the Staples area today (avoiding the birds, of course). I did most of the Bob Biscuit Goes Boxing walk and the Celtic ND walk. I also found a few extras - managed to pick up 25 boxes - although I know there are loads more out there. Will visit again in the coming weeks.

Caught the sun as well so hope I won't be sore tomorrow.

May go out again and do one of the charity walks tomorrow. I'll see whether i'm acking or not, as walked for 7.5 hours today.

Happy boxing everyone. :P

I know what you mean, even though I go through my gear time and time again, I always forget something! I've even used a splash of coffee from my flask to wet the stamp and an old magazine or box of tissues out of the car to make a print on.

Forgetting the walking sticks is a classic for me, I feel so lost without one! :)

Forgot the clues, map and compass before so had to look by just wandering around ever rock, why is it you always end up down the bottom of a hill and then have to hike back up again?

Gosh, Ducks Pool - that must have been awful - it's such a long way!!!

At least i'd only walked 10/15 minutes before I realised. Silly thing is, I always used to keep spare in a pocket in my rucksack but everything got wet last week and was left out to dry and I forgot to put it all back in. I'll have to put spares back in ... lol.

Glad it's not just me though.

Walking sticks and stamp pads are my usual thing, or the other thing I forget is the clues - which more often than not is a blessing - cos I love walking around "wildcatting" for boxes.

That depends on whether you know where you are going and have confidence in where you have parked. And in my time, before the introduction of GPS. I took a couple of hours to find it, and must have taken the long way round. Now I know the area a bit better and appreciate which lane to take, etc., it wouldn't take me so long a second time.

I must admit I love "wildcatting" as well - getting a box with a clue is great, but finding one without is so much more pleasurable.

Oh man... how many times have I left bits behind and felt like such a tit afterwards...?!

The worst time was when Jazz and I were going out to Fox Tor. I'd forgotten my compass, so bought another (slightly overpriced) one from the Visitors Centre at Princetown. Crossing a river near the foot of Fox Tor, the string on the new compass broke and the damn thing floated off! Jasper obligingly started off to get it back, but the current moved faster than he did. It was a LONG walk back to the V.Centre and an unhappy, sweary one at that.
