Letterboxing for the less mobile

My parents are visiting us next week. I'd love to take them letterboxing but they are in their mid-60's and not too healthy and mobile.

Can anyone suggest any boxes close to roads/car parks over easy ground?

I spoke with Don at the last meet and he was going to send me some clues but he must have lost my e-mail address.

If anyone has any suggestions or word of mouth for the less mobile I'd be grateful

Saddle Tor (Grid ref. 751 763) is an easy one for the less mobile and you can park at (Grid ref. 753 763). I've got a couple of boxes around there so will P.M you the clues.

There are loads of boxes in this area, sadly many of them tend to get damaged by certain individuals. Mine are well hidden so happy hunting.

You want to introduce them to letterboxing... they wont be the oldest beginners - the oldest I know of was 73 last October

Most of the Tors around that area are good for access from car parks. The only downside is that many of the boxes do get damaged fairly regularly. My mum is in a wheel chair and we've done Saddle Tor, Haytor and Hound Tor ( although that one was a long push uphil from the car park!) Thought about Rippon Tor - and that was as far as that one went! Quite a steep push that one!) Lots of nice little tors and they are also nice and close to the ice cream van and toilets at the ranger station. Oh and don't forget a nice cream tea at Widdecombe which is only 5 minutes away too

My parents are here on Friday for two weeks so hopefully the weather stays good. I'll be out with my brood regardless but I'd like some sunshine for the 'oldies'.

don't forget as well the animals on dartmoor walk, only about 3km around lil mis tor - also got the vistors centre in princetown close by for a bit of tourism, if they're into that sort of thing

The thing I dont like about Little Mis is that track. I personally prefer to stay off the tracks and, therefore, stand less chance turning an ankle.

I don't particularly like the track. However, it did come in extremely useful one year when this mist came down and I could hardly see in front of my face. At least when I hit the track, it was something easy to follow back to the car - before the days of me having GPS.
