:) Everytime I walk the moor behind my house at Ivybridge I check the boxes around to look after them - one I found tonight has a full book, shall I replace it with a new one?? if I do what should I do with the full one?? leave it in with the new one?

Some dont even have books? want to look after these boxes?? shall I become their mummy?

I carry spare books with me and if there's room pop it into the box along with the old one. However, if there isn't room, as long as you have the details, I'd probably take the old one home and post it on to the owner.

Hi to all,
Back in the 70's and 80's, if the book were full it had a contact name and address either or in the back / front of the book. You would give that person a call and they would come and sort it. :D [/quote]

The code of conduct states that visitor books should have contact details in them for the person that maintains the box. If there are no details I would suggest that it's ok to add a new book - but not to remove the full one as that belongs to someone else.

If the letterbox is sodden however and you cannot contact the owner I would put a message in the update or contact whoever is now doing the updates (or Godfrey if appropriate who has an encyclopaedic memory and records of owners) to find out who the owner is/was.

I guess basically a letterbox that is not maintained is little more than litter really. As letterboxers we don't really do ourselves any favours in the eyes of the Park Authority by turning a blind eye to postboxes that aren't looked after properly.
