Google Street View

or should that be called Moor View.

For those unaware, Google went live this week with a lot more locations on their 3D street view software. If you've never used it, click on maps once you've got to google and type in an address.

The really interesting bit is that they've travelled the public roads of Dartmoor and these are also now available. So if you want to know where an elusive car park is, or just want a fix of being able to go see somewhere, now you can. You can spin through 360 degrees at any location giving some pretty stunning views. I haven't tried it out everywhere but it's certainly covered the random locations I tried including Haytor to Widecombe, Cavepenny Cross, Merrivale car park. Worth a view when if like me you've got itchy feet having been hibernating this winter!

Say what you like about Google Street View privacy, but this is truly excellent. Thanks Mr Wolf for pointing it out. Try and spot a letterbox! :D

Had ours up in London for a while and I know I have been caught - Just find NW4 Glebe Crescent and look around off street and there am I on the phone talking to my boss about drain pipes or entering a phone in competition

I do not like London. In fact never been, Plymouth is bad enough for me. But put me on Dartmoor or in the countryside and I am happy. But google is a great wey to see the citys without going to them.

I posted a link to my site ages ago, but I've added Street View functionality to it, which makes it much more useful, in my opinion:

http://www.davebellamy.co.uk/indexTors.htm <-Click "Moor Car Parks" at the bottom left.

It shows a Google Map of all the car parks on Dartmoor. If you click the car park icon, then the "Tors Nearby" link, it shows all Tors within 5 kilometres.

Street View works for about half of them, but I'll be correcting that soon, time permitting.

Thought I had been caught in the car down in Brighton, definately saw the car go past me in the other direction, but when I had a look recently, nothing to be found!
