Letterboxing for beginners

Somewhat aged walker

I am new to Dartmoor walking and have grandchildren visiting shortly. How do I find some letterboxes for them to visit on the South moor over Easter?

This has been covered many times on here but I am not going to say go there but I will welcome you to the site and suggest a couple of places...

Big question how old are these tearaways I mean wonderful grandchildren?

If they are young (upto 8 ish) I would suggest Bonehill Rocks, probably the easiest Pile of rock to access from the road - full of letterboxes (kids stamps).

If they are a bit older (8- 10) then a couple of laps around Hound Tor should find you a dozen

If they and you are upto a bit more of a hike then go around Pew Tor/Sampford Tor from Pork Hill Car Park (just south of Cox Tor)

BE WARNED LETTERBOXING IS ADDICTIVE and now becoming expensive because of the spiralling price of fuel.

To give you an idea 1 box costs me today about £6 to collect and I got ten boxes today and that doesn't count the cost of cards or inks

Don't be put off by the figures - I travelled from London to get my meagre ten boxes
