Hi All,

Just wanted to pass on my good experience at the Prince of Wales pub this weekend. As a long serving patron of the Plume of Feathers, i was disappointed with the way we were treated whilst in the area the last few weekends. Needless to say, they have lost our custom for the foreseeable future.

The Prince of Wales pub was very friendly, served excellent food and for a good price. The facilities were clean and fresh, and the staff helpful.

More than I can say for the Plume.

Would highly recommend the Prince of Wales pub if you are super hungry, as the meals are positively huge!

This was always a venue for the post Meet group to meet up and have dinner when the Meet was in the old POC.

Always preferred this to the POF. Try the mega mixed grill - it takes some eating!!!

Only drawback I have experienced is going there on the wrong evening - when they are taking in coach parties! Service etc still good but be prepared to wait a long time to eat.

The Plume used to be one of the meeting places along with the The Devil's Elbow/Railway and we had some memorable meets in there.

I was so disappointed to see the place filled to overflowing with the Ten Tors lot - but then we didn't do ourselves any favours when the last time we were in the Devils Elbow - The Pool table was only three days old and someone covered it in ink.

They didn't help matters that evening as the pub didn't open until 6:30 pm because they had not heard of letterboxing and the significance of the Pre-meet night - oh well it's their loss and POW gain

Hmmmmm, as part of the 'Ten Tors Lot' & a letterboxer, I don't really think its a major issue who uses the pub, after all its there to serve drinks to paying patrons. However when their service is compromised for whatever reason, I do object.

Ten Tors provided both myself and my husband with life skills today that have proven to be priceless. As a consequence we give up 4 weekends a year to help run 3 Ten Tors groups to give todays generation the same priceless experiences.

By my calculation, that leaves 48 weekends a year for the pubs to be less crowded by the 'Ten Tors Lot'

I don't worry about who uses the pub and when - it is only that the letterboxers congregate when the clocks change - which is only two weekends a year.

The biggest complaint was about the campsite and the racket created by the juveniles who were somewhat inebriated and loud at 2.30 in the morning

I agree with you about the children and the noise, we get it aswell.

Although i can say hand on my heart, our kids go to bed early and are not allowed in the pub. They are usually tucked up and asleep by dark. There are some people claiming to be responsible adults in charge of other groups who let the kids do what they want......gives us who actually do have morals a bad name.

Not absolutely sure about that - when I was about 15 (many centuries ago) I went sailing a few times with a club on the Norfolk Broads. We used to moor up at night and all of us kids - plus adult supervision - would head for the nearest pub at night. It taught us how to drink responsibly, to have a good time but not get in anyone elses faces. The ten tors is a much greater challenge and I think they deserve to let their hair down.

I certainly understand where you are coming from, having experienced trust with drink myself as a youngster. Trouble is, times have changed and everything is so PC now we cant afford to let the kids put a foot wrong, otherwise it comes back on us.

We volunteer in conjunction with our jobs, so if anything went wrong, we've got alot to lose.

Went back to the Prince of Wales on Sunday after a walk up to Yes tor, had a lovely sunday lunch and a raspberry pavalova for Pudding, as per usual, it was lovely :) :)

I'm only just down the road from Princetown and am ashamed to say I've not been in either pub!

Although I could be easily persuaded if any other members fancy meeting up for an evening out

Would like to bet you have tried out the Rock.

In response to a previous post - it is sad that todays kids have no idea of camping etiquette... get drunk but do it quietly - have a laugh and be merry - have fun and die in the morning - personally I blame the lager... for some reason I think lager causes 95% of the problems in life - but thats my view

Lager or 'quite frightening' types of cider

Can't beat a pint of real ale 8) I had a wonderfully misspent youth being heavily involved with Camra (committee member back in the 70s) and can honestly say I never came across any trouble.

(I haven't been in the Rock either - can't drink these days and it's not much fun going in on your own and ordering orange juice  Will have to remedy that one day!)
