Hey all,

Well im now back home in Bedfordhsire, after a wonderful few days letterboxing...the weather was beautiful, we were very blessed.

My mum has begged me to ask you all about something very interesting we found on Kings Tor yesterday..... well i say interesting its "wood shavings"!!!

We came across a few piles of fresh wood shavings...not huge piles just handfuls, and often on top of horse poo! It wasn't on any tracks/main bridle way...or near a farm etc Any ideas as to how or why they were there would be good as im sure my poor mother is going to be pondering it for many days to come!

Looking forward to hearing any suggestions

best wishes

This is for hashing (idf thats how you spell it) somone goes ahead with a bag of shavings and creates a trail for others to follow. I do not know to much other than this, others I expect will enlighten you further.

Ever watched the raiway children? When the young lad breaks his leg in the tunnel? That is what they are doing Fox and hounds and since humans have an awful sense of smell they have to rely upon visual aids hence piles of biodegradable woodshavings

My son followed that track the same day you were up there, I think it was the 'Drakes Hash' that laid it. Anyway my little lad (only 7) thought it was fantastic, and followed it (running) from Four Winds Car park, along the stone row and off to the foot of Kings Topor before he ran out of puff!
