taken from the recent updates...

Overheard were 3 children from Widecombe saying that whenever they find a letterbox they smash the container and then throw the stamp as high as possible in the air!

As far as I can see this is being encouraged by the adults - which in the long term will have a detrimental effect on tourism in the Widecombe area

I have found a pill pot that had been smashed and the stamp put on the cairn at Great Gnats Head 3 months ago and two more smashed near Roos Tor . The contents of the boxes were missing and the damage was obviously caused by a two legged animal !.(In all cases i made sure all the bits were picked up and taken off the moor) .I say this because some boxes are inevitably damaged by Foxes that are attracted by the scent on a box and try to get the box open thinking there is food inside . Firstly the people who smash the pots are creating a problem for grazing animals who may injest sharp bits of plastic that could potentialy kill them, and has in the past .There is also the environmental damage this causes .Not to mention the fact that you are spoiling someones enjoyment ,time and effort to put the box out ,make the stamp etc. I have no time for people who do this ,taking a box is one thing but smashing the pot into bits is another .Anyone who does this has no thought for Dartmoor ,the safebeing of all its animals ,and the environment of the National Park and the people who enjoy it .You are nobodies friend.

Makes you wonder why there are people out there who cannot abide others enjoying themselves
