Just stopped by to say hello really!
USed to letterbox with my parents when was 5 or so, have recently returned to it and my partner has got the bug, so much so we was out on the moor today in pooring rain :)
FOund 5 or so on corndown tor, however one hole had rusty barbed wire hidden in where a box should have been! Removed wire, but just showes what nasty people are out there really.
ANy.tips for a returning boxer?

Welcome to the forum Ross,

Hi Ross, and welcome :)
I must admit I see see very few people younger than myself (34) out letterboxing. Excluding the kiddies with the parents of course.
Sad really.

I feel quite younge now clocking in at 23!
must say that, I have tried this Geocaching thing, and its just far to easy and feels alittle pointless!
It such a shame that more people do not take advantage of Dartmoor really, having grown up climbing and kayaking on dartmoor I personally find it hard to understand why people would rather be sat at home, watching TV, playing computer games as opposed to being out enjoying dartmoor!
Back off out again tomorrow to collect some more stamps in the afternoon!
There is abit of an "older" feel to letterboxing, the other half was put of coming to the meet at leemill on sunday because she was under the impression that everybody was 65+!!!!

Hello Ross,
We (K&A) are quite seasoned walkers (the other side of 50) but only recently developed an interest in letterboxing having found some in error (read earlier/other posts). I have known about leterboxing since I was schoolboy in the 1960's and always assumed it was an elite activity with closely guarded secrets (other than the well known sites at Ducks pool and Cranmere). Since joining the forum last year I have learned a great deal. Boxing seems to occur at different levels from the elite (no criticism intended) to 'word of mouth', catalogue and childrens boxes put out for fun - (and which we seem to keep finding more than anything else). We did find several 'good' stamps on the slopes of Brat Tor - and frequently stumble across geocache sites (which we put back; as found). I hope you enjoy your rediscovered hobby!
Best wishes

I did it at a child with parents, and the other half seems to love it more than I thought she would - having dragged me out this afternoon in the rain for a quick 2hour hunt, found 5 boxes, placed one box, and found 2 empties!
not bad considering it was misty, cold and raining - I think she only enjoys going out because of Fox tor café after!!!!
