Just to change the usual subjects a bit! What are the views of the Forum.

I do not profess to be a Royalty lover or supporter. But! saying that I was really involved with Diana and Charles and really hoped for the best - still got the glasses we toasted their 'health and happiness' to still unused since that wedding day.

Appreciated the giving of the ring and his meaning behind it - but cannot help the feeling - it did Diana no good!

I saw their first question interview and thought how relaxed they were, in comparison to that of Diana and Charles.

In the papers I see that the Royal Mint and other such memorabilia medal / or such like things are already advertising their goods - how so soon after the engagement announcment?

....!

OK, TWA. I'll bite.

We live an age of cynical media and increasingly cynical public (at least where the Royals are concerned). Although its wonderful news for the family and I congratulate them both. I feel that the weight of responsibility that Diana's ring provides will be the least of their concerns. The Royal Family cannot afford for another failed marriage, and the Press mob will be baying or blood.

On the plus side. Now there is talk that their Big Day will be made a Bank Holiday.

Which will mean a bonus long weekend out on the Moor next year!

Yippee!

Bit of a strange topic on a Dartmoor forum website! Unless someone puts out a special box for the occasion.?

RE:DIANA'S RING

The first thing I would do, would be to get a copy made, imagine ringing him up in his helicopter to say "Darling ive lost, damaged, cant find my engagement ring"

Good luck to them £3 million in security arrangements = £1 billion in income to the country from all the soft yanks who want a piece of the pie,

Watched breakfast telly the other morning and one of the American reporters was on Angelsey already complaining of the 6 hour car journey she had had to get there, obviously the prat booking the flights forgot about Manchester being only 2 1/2 hrs away from the island. THATS SO FUNNY

Just watch the price of flights quadruple from the states for the day before they tie the knot, and the hotel room prices will rocket.

As for the extra bank holiday well lets hope they remember those employed that only get paid when they work ie the agency lot

Sorry for the rant....bored

I'm sure there will be box or two put out to mark the occasion.

But why can they not get hitched at St Georges chapel Windsor.

The day is yet to be ruined for millions of people by the tube drivers union who only want a 300% pay rise yes you read it correctly 300% and days off in lieu for working on bank holidays... don't want much - do they?

Must admit I'm never really hugely interested in the goings on of the royal family - I wish them the best of course but the only *real* reason I'm looking forward to it is because it's another bank holiday.

Perhaps their plan is to trap all the commuters at closed stations so they'll never have to deal with them again?

I can only wonder if she truly knows what she is getting into marrying into The Firm !!! There is nothing quite like being in a marriage that you have little time for as Charles & Diana, amongst many, later and sadly proved .......the poignancy of Will giving his Mums ring is sweet but immeasurably pressuring......but then they aren't yongsters now...he is 28 and she is 29 and they have been together for 8 years or so I believe

But then again....there is also nothing quite like "interference" from family just to add more pressure to their relationship.....

I wish them well, I hope they survive against the plethora of intereference that they will be bombarded with. At least we will no doubt gain a day off, so I shall tip my head in silent acknowledgement.....

Giving your mothers engagement ring is an old fashioned sentiment and good for him - it is better being used than collecting dust in some trophy cabinet!

At least Diana and Sarah brought the Royal family into the 21st century even if they didn't want to be dragged into it.

And as for the other comment - this is a social room - it doesn't have to be all letterboxing orientated
