Folk...... what sort of Wild Food can you find on Dartmoor. I've never seen a fruit tree or berry bushes on the South Moor, I'm sure there are some... anyone know where? Also, are you allowed to fish in the rivers and dams?

I'm planning a kind of survival trip and want to live off the Land for a few days... obviously with back-up rations if no fodder to be had..

Thanks

Cannot say there is a lot to be had though I am no survival expert. Seen loads of sheep, lambs, cows, ponies (not wild - but the farmer would be!!!) and a few deer - Fernworthy. Small fish in the leats, some pheasants on the outer edges of the moor, plenty of rabbits!

Saw some wild strawberries in odd places scattered around the moor - last place at 'the dry' ruins below Warren House Inn

In Endsleigh Garden and Leisure center are a number of books selling cheap - Ray Mears, Bear Grills, camping, and surviving in the wild type. You can also get a couple of books on wild food stuff.

Magic H - look out for the small 'magic mushrooms' !!!!!

Head to the Teign valley. There is Salmon, Brown & Sea Trout in the Teign around Drogo area. Fishing permits cost £20 a day - Fingle Bridge Inn sell those, and they also do meals, so you won't starve!

We can't think of any fruit bushes on the moor either... and Wood Sorrell and Saxifrage will only keep you going so long!
