Car Parking

Looking for a bit of help: I'm not totally familiar with the very South of the Moor and I want to get up the Yealm and thereabouts. I'm not sure though about the best parking start place; New Waste has been suggested but there's nothing very obvious on the map. I recall that yonks ago someone put a list of handy parking spots on this forum but I can't find it now. Can anyone help with my specific problem, or even better come up with the original list? Any help much appreciated!

You have two options, depending on which bank of the Yealm you wish to explore. New Waste's car park is at 626 611. Then follow the path North to the moorgate North-west of Redaven Gulf.

There is a parking spot at 608 609 which leads to East Rook Gate, then potentially on to Penn Moor and the West bank of the Yealm. Not much to find here in the way of letterboxes though...

Enjoy!

There is a carpark at New Waste, just north of Cornwood, at the end of the road past Tor (SX6261). I don't like walking from there very much myself though. I usually park at Blackaton Cross and go via Shell Top or I park at the scout hut near Sheepstor and go via Langcombe Hill. But those approaches are slightly longer.

Thank you both for your kind suggestions - I'll give them a go!

Sorry, I don't check here very often, but that was most likely me, when I first started my website. It's moved on a bit since then, but the Moor Car Parks page is still there:

I find google earth/maps quite handy for this too. Since the aerial shots are generally taken on a sunny day you can often spot groups of cars.

Also - streetview on google maps now covers pretty much everything, even a few hundred yards into the dartmoor ring road. Great for researching new areas.

Did you check my site?! Google Maps and Street View are both incorporated. Click the Car Park icon, then click the "Tors nearby" link.

I'd already checked out the parking to the South Moor as kindly suggested above, but this web site is what I was thinking of in the first place and is a real asset! Will try not to loose the link this time!
